I may be getting too picky and he would be a nice player to have but with Naz and Monte we seem pretty filled up at PG. And with Fred's ability to seemingly get any guard out there I'm not sure Clayton is a must by any means

He would be a solid get but not a breakout type player in the back court we have. With four players pretty much interchangeable and very young (Naz, MM, Matty Ice, and SDW) at the 1 and 2, he would be a depth guy and solid coming off the bench but with Freddy at the top I feel like he could reel in a big fish such as a Jared Terrell. Just thinking out loud here

Naz would already be a junior, MT and SDW are not PG's.

Edit: Terrell is also listed as a SG, not sure if he could play the 1 but I don't think MT or SDW are 1 type material.

Matt Thomas could play the 1 if we need him and SDW on the court at the same time for some reason. I was saying we could get a player of Terrell's talent not necessarily him. I'm very high on MM, he's a gamer and a winner

Thomas will not play the point. Take Custer if you can get him.

The coaches disagree with you, trust me. They want Custer bad.

You take top 100 talent even if you have 3 guys in the position already. This is a no brainer so discussion of whether you go after him is silly. Besides, great name!

Thomas isn't a PG. Coaches are very high on Custer, he is an important recruit to land.

I think with the size we have with some of the 2's, Fred sees the ability to have a couple of PG-skilled players on the floor by sliding a natural 2 to the three. I believe he is intrigued by being able to play Morris at the 2 and that allows two primary ball handlers on the floor at once, with three good shooters to space the floor for drives. Lots of flexibility there and more open looks inside for the posts.

Right on.

I think it's important to note that almost all the PGs Fred has gone after have shown the ability to also score. This makes some of them combo guards. It's also important to note that the SGs Fred has gone after have also shown the ability to handle the ball a bit. I think it's safe to say (understatement) by now that Fred is looking to out 3 "guards" on the floor most times. When you want to play up-tempo, having multiple guys who can handle and shoot is important. That gives you multiple options on the break - whether it's started on the inbound, a defensive rebound, a steal, etc.

Having a stable of top 100 guards also means that when you sub your #1s out, you don't have to slow the tempo that much.

It doesn't seem that anyone is taking into account the possiblity of transfers out of ISU program. I'm not trying to start a thread suggesting there will be some, but let's face it....it is not like it has not happened before. So, if you get a chance at a quality player like this, I think you have to take him if you are still recruiting guards.

Also, I did not notice anyone mention Maurice Jones. Granted, he will only be playing for a year and a half, but 2014 will be his senior year, so he will still be around then too.

Also, you do not take a shooting talent like Thomas and put him at the point. Sorry.....you just don't do that.

My concern with this team going forward will always be the bigs. I have no doubt that FH will always be able to get quality guards....what guard wouldn't want to play for him? ISU has to have players though that can rebound the ball and get it to those guards.

Fred seems to really like looking to the JUCO ranks for bigs right now. I really don't see the bigs being a huge piece of ISU's offensive plan moving forward. The players seem to be garbage men in the post. Which is fine with me because I am a big fan of the 3 ball and there is no better complement to a bunch of shooters than a mean nasty garbage man in the post who's not afraid to bang.

After looking more into Custer I think he would be a really good get. I was just concerned on how the PT would work out but Freddy seems to sub people in and out a lot more than other B12 teams which is always a good thing if you have the depth. I was being arrogant and kinda wanted to stir this thread up a bit:twitcy:

Thought that Morris was a comb guard (or plays like one), so a true point is a need. Can never have too many quality guards.
