I got a 4S back in February or so and they let me keep my unlimited data plan, not sure if something changed in the last few months (maybe with the Group plan announcement). My bill is $98 a month or something, it's ridiculous

Sprint is the cheapest when it comes to iPhone. It's unlimited everything for roughly 60 bucks. AT&T is about 70ish a month. You probably do not need unlimited text if your family have iPhones. Text between iPhones are free (iMessaging).
Two GB of data is more than plenty if you are not planning to stream movies and such.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have been grandfathered in with the unlimited data plan with Verizon- are they now requiring you to switch to the 2GB for $30/5GB for $50 deal when you re-up your contract?
I got a new GS III in June and to stay on unlimited data I had to renew by the 27th or something to be grandfathered in on unlimited data. Supposedly after that it was going to be all tiered data plans.
Only if you want to renew the contract. But the only reason why you would ever renew a Verizon (or any carrier for that matter) contract is to get a discounted phone. If you're willing to pay full price for whatever phone you choose you continue on your existing contract with your new phone.
Because I steram Netflix and TuneIn Radio at work I will easily eclipse 10 gb a data a month - I'm closer to 16. Even if I were to cut back to 10 gb, that's something like $100 more a month than I'm paying right now. I would end up spending less by buying the phone outright than renewing the contract - and it wouldn't even take a year to start seeing the savings. Plus, since I'm not under contract, if Verizon decides to start screwing with me I can leave at any time because I'm not weighted under a 2-year contract.
The thing is, though, I like Verizon's network. It just works, and it works just about everywhere. My brother-in-law has Sprint and he doesn't even get 4G coverage in the Detroit Metro area when he comes to visit. I'd rather stay with Verizon as long as I can, at least, until customer service becomes so crappy that I'd be willing to switch to a lesser network for better service.

I have a Mortorola M from US Cellular after having Galaxy 2. Like the M so much more. I would hate the Galaxy III since it is so big. I get 5gb of data, 1200 shared minutes, and unlimited texts for $127 for 2 lines. Not bad. I don't come close to the 5gb of data, but I wouldn't get less than 3.
I wouldn't worry too much about 16gb vs 32gb, unless you plan on treating your phone as your primary ipod. I still have an ipod nano with my music and an ipod touch with movies.

Are you married to Verizon for some reason? I am, based on coverage in my area. If I had the option, I'd get a Nexus 4 and Straight Talk or T-Mobile and save a ton of cash. Only works in larger metro areas, however. I hope Google blows up the paradigm over next few years. The consumers have no leverage at this point. Most families could buy a decent used car with their cell bill, and after 3-5 years they would own the damn car. It's crazy.
All i do is find a picture I like and just take a screen capture and use that for the background image. They have all turned out good.
