He might be a tad classless but he wins lots of games and makes way better adjustments then our coach does. I love Hoiberg don't get me wrong but Bill Self is the reason KU won tonight, not the refs. He works the refs and thats why they get so many calls in their favor. Hoiberg sits in a chair and just watches.

...but at least Hoiberg can lay in bed at night knowing he is not mean to the officials.:jimlad:

I guess you didn't watch the Tim Floyd and LE years

I didn't realize what I wrote would be so controversial. Like I said, I understand the reality of how working the refs works. And that every coach does it. And yes, that we have benefitted from it a lot over the years especially in Hilton. But is it really fair to the game when some coaches have more power than others to affect the final outcome based not just on their schemes, but on how the officials (supposed to be unbiased) think and react to the game? I don't think it is. Of course I am happy when it benefits us, but also don't know that it's in the best interest of keeping competition fair in ANY sport. Does that make sense?

I'm sure self is concerned about having your respect. The way you exaggerate is epic, reminds me of hillary clinton ...are the two of you sisters? Yes, be proud of losing. Surprised you didn't blame the refs.
We have a troll!

These kinds of posts are butt hurt, but this season has just been a pile of butt hurt. Glad we made the tourney, but when things can go wrong whether it be a bad call, or an opposing player has an uncharacteristic crazy good game, it seemed to happen agaisnt us this season. It was like a bad night's gambling. Had we done the season over, we just as strangely could have ended the season with 5-6 losses. It's just the way it goes and I understand the emotions this season because it's been a rollercoaster but on to the next game. Take it out on a 4,5 or 7 seed.

Its fair when Hoiberg does chooses to not do the same thing. If Hoiberg would of done the same thing, and KU kept getting the calls, maybe I would be more upset at the refs. However, Hoiberg continues to be Mr. Nice guy; while I'm sitting in my living room in Ankeny thinking its a miracle the cops didn't show up at my house for the language I was screaming at the TV.

Players want to know that coach has their back. KU players know their coach is there to get them every advantage. TF and LE did this very well. JO was one of the best. GMac somehow figured out how to get officials to call things against us. Self is just doing his job. He is a jerk, but he is just doing his job.

We had too many turnovers. Took off balanced shots. Gave up about 50 points in the paint. Got killed on the boards. Couldn't hit from outside. Which of those did Self influence the refs to do? Maybe Melvin gets called for 3 fouls instead of 4. Does Korie play better as a result?

Please stop complaining.

What Self does is a skill he has learned over 100's of games coaching at a high level. Fred is still learning that part of the coaching game and we have to bear with it.

I used to love Self, but taunting the other team out of line, even for my own sketchy moral compass, and he should have just acknowledged it rather than lose control over it until he got a T. You should support your players, but not when they behave like that.

I thought he was pretty hilarious in the halftime interview. The T on McLemore was pretty weak. It was borderline at best. I think BM caught himself pretty quick, but the ref was quicker with the T. I'd have been livid if our player was called for that...

Niang got called for something very similar early in the B12 season on the road. can't remember where. Tech maybe?

If yelling at refs translated to wins, the Hawks would be undefeated. Guess what? They're not. Having better players wins games.

He's a PUKE but I'm more disgusted in how the ref's let him intimidate the way they call the game.

I can believe Self is a classless ***** and still not disagree with >90% of the posts in this thread. I don't like him and I don't respect him. Did he help KU win in all three games? Yes Can he recruit? Yes Do I wish he would stop making the Iowa State coaches look like a bunch of shy high school assistants? Yes Do I think he a classless ***** that I don't like or respect? Absolutely

By the way...even he thought he was an idiot tonight so if you want to stand up for the guy you are actually disagreeing with him. Then again...KU shows a lott more sportsmanship and class off the court than they do on the court.

He has always been condescending in local KCMO media to ISU and he continues to be.

Yeah, Self is too good of a coach to let this ISU team hang for 3 games. Anybody who has watched how he's acted and listened to what he's said after the last ISU should realize he's a guy who will say or do anything to give his team an advantage.

I just don't think he should support his players taunting our bench. It's not worth it.

Alright then. I don't consider myself a person that complains about officiating very often. Just find it interesting that most people tonight didn't see it the way I did. Usually I feel my opinions closely mirror the general fan base. And I have sat in Hilton for many years since the JO era and seen many coaches (on our side) use this to manipulate games to our advantage.
