Band members seem to get "cheering" and "chanting" mixed up
So it's chants you don't like. No more CYCLONE...POWER, or LET'S GO STATE! Maybe teams are just more sedate playing in the NIT.

If you think "Cyclone Power" and "Let's Go State" are in the same category as "The ball is bigger than the hoop," then you need to re-think your life.So it's chants you don't like. No more CYCLONE...POWER, or LET'S GO STATE! Maybe teams are just more sedate playing in the NIT.
Why are our fans so awful? I'm tired of these fans who nitpick and have nothing to complain about but the officials and the band. They've got nothing but positive reviews from reporters and TV personalities. It's either the chants or dead silence during free throws. If you don't like it, realize that the band, and Iowa State basketball, is not all about you.
gonna agree with Jon here.If you think "Cyclone Power" and "Let's Go State" are in the same category as "The ball is bigger than the hoop," then you need to re-think your life.
Do you call basketball media making fun of the band's chants positive reviews. They dont have to be quite, they just need to rethink what they are saying.
Also take away those kid's instruments and free tickets to the game, think any of them would show up for games? Make them pay to get in? Ya i could see some showing up to ku or iowa. But showing up for oklahoma? baylor? tech? No, they would not. They are loyal because they are required to stay. I was in the football band when we played texas 2 years ago and there were plenty of us in the stands complaining because we wanted to leave. And given the choice, most if not all of us would have
They are no more loyal than the rest of us. The only thing different is they play an instrument.
That's, just like, your opinion man. When you start putting down more time than the teams on ISU athletics, let me know. Marching band is 7.5 hours a week during the fall semester. Band camp is 8-12 hour days for a week before classes start. Games are 8-12 hour days. That's just for marching band.
Pep band is another 4-5 hour engagement for a game, there are approximately 20 a season. That's for MBB, and there is a double of that if you serve in the band for both the men and the women.
There's a pep band for volleyball, which is only 20 students, but is the same time commitment as the basketball games and there are 10-12 volleyball games a year. Pretty quickly the band people put in as much time and effort (add more if you actually care to practice, memorize music, or participate in the concert ensembles or jazz band for your own enjoyment or to practice your chops) as the teams and probably more, given you have a "season" from early August to end of March.
Plus, none of us (with the exception of the twirler) get a dime to do any of this. Yes, they get to travel on occasion for free and small per diem when they do, but all that there is for it is 1-hour of credit for each semester, which is a free A, but a terribly inefficient way to go about it when there are so many X for Jocks classes out there that are so much less time. The average band GPA is a lot higher than the average student body's, too.
Yes, I do think this effort and commitment puts them head and shoulders above everybody else in terms of supporting the university, its spirit, and athletic program. They love cardinal and gold, the school songs and traditions, and do it all for nothing in return. There isn't a more loyal group of fans, a more knowledgeable one, or one that has more fun.

"Rethink your position on what qualifies as a chant worth keeping" was too much work to type. Sorry. So because I have a different opinion on the band's right to chant during games in support of the Cyclones I need to "rethink my life"? Very classy.
I don't get a dime for paying 10k plus a year and going to all the games. boo hoo. When you start putting down more time than the teams on ISU athletics, let me know. Annoy us and embarrass the school with their chants. Not defending the band, but I really don't understand all the irrational hate towards the band. What did they ever do to you?
