So I played soccer for like 12 years, but don't follow international soccer. Is it safe to say we have almost no shot of winning.

The World Cup or the Mexico game tonight?

For the World Cup, no, we don't have much of a chance.

Against Mexico, we do have a shot tonight because it is being played at night (not a big one but ya know). It is much easier to play them at night than mid-afternoon which has been historically when these games have been played. If Jamaica can get a result there, we can too.

This match, or the World Cup as a whole? We have no shot at winning the Cup, but we do have a decent chance at finishing first in CONCACAF qualifying, which is no small feat. As for this match, the odds are stacked against us, and we'll probably be playing with a draw as the goal, to steal a point at Azteca.

The US is on a winning streak in the Azteca! Anything can happen! To be fair, yeah with this squad I would elated with a draw.

I'd agree that the chances for a US victory are pretty slim. Nobody really expects to take points from Mexico in Azteca so a loss here isn't horrible. But, I am excited for this match just to watch the drama unfold. I think Mexico will come out guns blazing & the big question will be can the US withstand the initial onslaught. IMO, an early goal for Mexico would mean an ugly night for the US. But if the US can keep them off the board for say the first 30 min, I think you might see their sphincters tighten up. And their fans will turn on the team if things aren't going well.

I'm so excited! Watching games at el Azteca is just insane. I read somewhere that they expect between 500-1000 USA fans. So, ya know, only 104,000 battery, beer, and urine-bag throwing fanatical mexicans that value this game more than we do the super bowl. I can't imagine what it'd be like to be a visiting player stepping out into that. I do agree with shagcarpetjesus, if we can keep it even until half the crowd may turn on their own guys though, and with their somewhat permeable back line we could be in good position to get a point or 3.

In all the interviews and things I've heard the Klinnsy and the players all say they don't plan on playing defensively and I think that is the best way to keep the game close. El Tri thrive on possession and if we can hold the ball well for stretches of time then we can get them on their heels. Watching them blow the lead against Honduras was very encouraging as well. We, of all people, know well how good Honduras is but that was a pretty major choke-job. I'm hoping that Edu gets the start in Jones' place and is tasked primarily with containing Dos Santos. The wings and obviously Chicharito are where the danger comes from but Dos Santos is huge in opening space for others and making dangerous runs. Edu has the speed and the bite to slow him down IMO. My other big concern is dealing with the speed of Chicharito if we stick with Gonzo and Goodson in the back. They both played great in Denver (as best I could tell haha) but neither are speedsters. Cameron could be returning to the middle or Edu could move back but then I don't know who you put in at CDM. Beckerman?

Hopefully it is a good one. Any points would make me feel very good going forward

So jacked up. As always, AO Des Moines will be having a watch party at The Keg Stand if you're interested.

I never watch MLS even thought I've always kind of wanted to go to a Sporting KC game. I'm gonna sit down and watch tonight's game though.
I highly recommend going to a Sporting KC game, maybe not when it's 110 degrees like it was when I went though.

I went to a chicago fire and a dude set off two roman candles in the crowd and another dude tripping on acid kept firing off an invisible bow and arrow.

You let me know when you wanna go because I've been wanting to. I wanted to go to the Galaxy-Sporting KC game last year, but it didn't happen.

If you get the chance, you gotta go to a US game at Sporting Park in KC. Electric atmosphere.

Goodson not on 23 man roster tonight which I'm ok with. I thought Goodson was a solid pick in Friday's match. Given the conditions his lack of recovery speed wasn't as big of an issue. And his experience came in handy with all of the uncertainty in the back line. Clarence is useful as a mudder. But with Mexico I think we need somebody with a little more speed to track Chicharito back there. Especially if JK sticks with Omar as one of the CB.
