My wife and I aren't exactly sure what this is, but it appears to be some kind of sage. Every 2-3 weeks, it explodes with the purple flowers. They fall off after 3-5 days, and the cycle repeats all summer. The bees and butterflies like it. It's kind of a gangly thing, but the flowers are pretty. We've seen other sages in the garden stores and in landscaping, but they have different color leaves and only have a few flowers on them.

Those are cool looking. I'm growing Cascade hops & jalapeños on our porch. I look forward to having a house with a garden someday.

That's a really cool plant - on another note, looks like it's time to mow!

Last year I had a mushroom that looked exactly like a big ***** growing in my back yard.

This isn't the actual picture, but the same mushroom that was in my yard:

I am probably 100% wrong, but Ill throw it out there anyways. At my parents house, we used to have lilac bushes, could that be it? Again, they look similar, but I have no idea on anything past physical appearance.

The flower color is similar to lilac, but the the leaf and flower shapes are quite a bit different. The leaves are quite small and resemble a sage leaf, so we think it is a sage, but perhaps it is a variety that is not common to this area.

The structure sure doesn't look like sage, way too big. I would try guessing what it is, but you live in Texas and grow very different plans than I see up here in MN.
Edit: I am going to guess. I think it is some variety of Weigela.

That is my thought. If the butterflies pick up in Aug, you will know for sure.

Hard to be certain but I think it is this southern landscaping plant:

[h=1]Texas Ranger, Leucophyllum frutescens[/h]

That sure sounds like it. We had about 1/2" of (unexpected) rain on Saturday, and it bloomed up again Tuesday, which was only about a week and a half after the last bloom. That seemed a little faster than normal.
You are lucky! I have the soil in Central Wisconsin for this lovely plant (30 feet of fine golden sand) but the winter would kill this thing by November.

I got a bunch of these growing out of some mulch in my garden. these things are so disgusting and they smell horrible. i’ve been trying to pull them every time I see them pop out, but they keep growing back. Plan B is bleach.
