Re: Rashad Vaughn

National Champs. Easy.

Winning the tournament is such a crap-shoot. Rarely do I think the best team in CBB wins the championship. Kentucky in 2012, Louisville last year, UNLV in 1991?, etc. I'll go Big 12 championship and deep but unpredictable tourney run.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Not sure if anyone saw, but 247 gave us another crystal ball prediction and has also changed Vaughn's interest in Kentucky from "Warm" to "Cool". You have to think that if Vaughn isn't interested in Kentucky anymore that we have twice as many predictions as our next opponent, UNC. UNC gets Robert Johnson on the 20th and we are miles ahead of everyone else on this recruit. I'm getting more excited by our chances with him by the day.

(Playing devil's advocate) don't count out UNLV, UCLA, Baylor, Minnesota, and Kansas. We may be leading but they could catch up at any moment.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

It's looking good at the moments, but there is a lot of time for KU and UNLV to turn up the heat on RV. We are in as good a spot as we can be right now - but he ain't singed yet.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

If we land RV next year it's gonna be sick. I can't wait to see this kid in the cardinal and gold during March Madness. The media already loves Fred, add in RV and there's the superstar CBS loves to glam on to. Perform well in the tourney and things become much more wide open for the clones on the recruiting front.

PS - F UK and KU

Report: College coaches not allowed at Huntington, Findlay - CBSSports.com

The NCAA has barred college coaches from in-person evaluations at multiple prominent prep schools, Yahoo! Sports reported Saturday morning.

According to the report, Huntington Prep (W.Va.) and Findlay Prep (Nev.) are both off-limits to coaches.
Prime Prep (Tex.) is also mentioned, but it's not clear in the report whether they are on the list, too.

Huntington and Findlay have both been classified as “non-scholastic,” which means coaches can't evaluate their players at practices and workouts. As of last December, coaches are only allowed to evaluate “non-scholastic” prospects at games.

Here's an excerpt from the NCAA directive to college coaches, obtained by Yahoo:

"A team that is affiliated with a scholastic institution, but not subject to the rules and regulations of a scholastic governing body would be considered a nonscholastic team for purposes of applying the evaluation legislation set forth in Bylaw 13.1.7.8.1-(a). … At this time, the AMA staff has been presented fact situations involving two teams, Findlay Prep and Huntington Prep, and has determined that based on the facts presented and the above mentioned legislation and interpretation, both of those teams would be considered nonscholastic teams …"
Over the past several years, both Huntington and Findlay have produced dozens of college prospects – including Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett. Wiggins was the No. 1 player in the class of 2013 and attended Huntington, while Bennett was the No. 1 pick in June's NBA draft and attended Findlay.

This year is no different. Huntington has three high-major commits, as well as former Louisville commit Jaquan Lyle and a couple of elite juniors. Findlay is home to five-star wings Rashad Vaughn and Kelly Oubre, along with Arizona pledge Craig Victor.

The basketball recruiting and evaluation period began on September 9.

probably the best news of the night. No coaches allowed on campus should give us a leg up on Vaughn. His official visit just became that much more critical.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Given our luck, I don't like the NCAA snooping around a place where our next potential prized star basketball player is attending.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

like to see tweets like this as Wolfson seems to have sources

Chris Trautman ‏@ctrauty 1h @DarrenWolfson So Duke probably getting 2 of the big MN 3? Does MN have any kind of shot with Vaughn?

Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson 21m @ctrauty I think they have a shot. I'll say this: if Hoiberg had taken the MN job, he'd be a commit already. He loves Fred. It's a battle.

I don't like this at all, we send our entire staff to watch Vaughn workout at Findlay on Monday and then this memo comes out from NCAA on wednesday. Sounds like some coach didn't like Iowa State making progress on Vaughn

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Coaches can still go visit Vaughn - I believe UNC is visiting him this weekend.

Seems to simply be a technicality for visiting/ watching workouts at the "school" which is not exactly a school.

Very strange.... more bureaucracy from the NCAA. Some comments seem to make it sound like a temporary thing.

you can do visits with the kid, but can't watch him workout. My understanding was we were going to watch him workout. That was widely reported via twitter. As were other coaches. Then somebody must have asked for a clarification on the new rule that was instituted last December. The NCAA sent out a memo clarifying it and singled out three prep schools, Findlay, Huntington, and Prime Prep. That memo was sent out on Wednesday. Schools like Findlay are legit schools, but not governed by any Nevada scholastic association (high schools), don't play for any state or regional championship. some of the northeast prep schools like Brewster play in the NEPSAC, in a league, for a championship, so recruiting rules are like a high school.

At this point it's not about watching him workout, it's about him seeing you watch him workout. If he saw that we went there and was able to speak with us afterward that's all that really matters. We aren't there to evaluate him anymore.

I understand that, but the point is did we and others go to watch him work out monday? that would be a violation
