Wow, I wasn't on CF then but I can't believe so many people were that disappointed with the Hoiberg hire. I remember reading that the reaction among the fan base was mixed, which always confused me as I and every single person I talked to was pumped about the hire. Every. Single. Person.

I was excited for the hire, but also thing...oh $h!+, I hope this works.

Basketball threads were pretty nuclear at the time. As a board, we were beat down and gun shy, so I get that it was a tough one to believe.
Except that it involved Fred Hoiberg.

What's exciting is we have two top 100 guards in the back court too. If we add Vaughn, we could have the big 12's best back court too (or one of the top) We would officially by on par with KU all over the court I believe.

I love ISU but this is one of the most asinine statements I've ever seen. Is Kansas leaving the conference next year?

I mean, I get people being nervous about hiring an unproven coach and thinking it risky (it certainly was), but can't believe how many posters were legitimately ****** about the hire. Gives me some good background into CF though...

Kansas is going to have a sever case of the roster turnover next year. Already lost their entire starting 5 from last year, plus they'll lose Andrew Wiggins and anyone else who thinks they're good enough, like Selden, Black, and/or possibly Tharpe.

Big 12 Championship is a real possibility next year. Kansas will have full roster turnover (will obviously get some talent back, but not Wiggins level), Oklahoma State will lose at least two of their three players, and Baylor loses Austin and Jefferson. Kansas State's recruiting sucks, Oklahoma will be in the mix, West Virginia and Texas have a long way to go, and TCU and Tech are TCU and Tech.

Wow next year will be good.

I think the team as currently set will challenge for Big 12 championship next year; + RV obviously only makes that much stronger.

But RE KU's talent next year, have you seen the possibilities for what KU could be bringing in next year? They've got officials scheduled for Tyus Jones, Okafor, Cliff ALexander, Myles TUrner, and Stanley Johnson. Their next class could be as good or better than this one. Their rivaling UK for recruiting anymore.

Maybe not this year, there's a chance next year but probably still not, but at some point Morris and Thomas WILL be the best backcourt in the Big12.

Watched the Bernie and Earnie 30 for 30 tonight, and can't help but think that years down the road, Fred and Iowa St. will have their own 30 for 30 type story.

The story writes itself. Johnny Orr creating Hilton Magic, Fred comes along, Floyd leaves for NBA, Larry has a helluva run until his issues, the dark years of McDermott, then JP calls on the Mayor to revive the program after a heart condition cuts his career short in the NBA.

Fred creates transfer u, in order to jump start the program. Then brings in some of the very best freshmen, and takes over the Big 12. Which leads to final fours and national titles.

Well......some of the story still has to be written.

Kansas also leads for the best PG in the class. Got the #34 player, Conner Frankamp, last year plus there's no guarantee Selden or Tharpe will leave. Not to mention Black is a senior.

I'll happily eat crow if this happens. But until Kansas doesn't actually win a conference championship (regular season for you Steve Alfords) then I'll believe they don't have the best anything.

It is known in our home that we will be heading to Indy if that happens. There is no way I could miss an Iowa State Final Four.

I personally think this commit will help add another feather in our cap for RV

@JonRothstein: Iowa State could have the Big 12's best front court in 14-15. Jameel McKay, D Hogue, Georges Niang, + Northern Ill transfer Abdel Nader.

How is what I said asinine? That if they get Vaughn they will have one of the top or the top back court in the Big 12? How is that asinine? Kansas may have better, but that is why I put the qualifier (or one of the top)

I said IF we get Vaughn, which if we did, we would have 4 top 100 guards in the back court. Name another team besides Kansas that could even come close to that in the Big 12.

If Kansas has the best backcourt and us front court, or vise versa.. Or even us 2nd to them in both. I like our chances to outplay them with Fred as the coach.

COULD. Again, until Kansas doesn't actually win a conference championship then I'll believe they don't have the best anything.

Yeah I really don't know too much about Kansas recruiting because we generally don't recruit the same kids.

But a Big 12 Championship should be a goal next year, a very attainable one at that. We'll have at least a year of experience under the belt for most everyone on the team. I'm in the boat that experience + good talent (Iowa State) > great talent (Kansas)

You should go to Jayhawkfanatic. If you can't see that tides are turning and we are building something here that will eventually (soon) be able to compete with Kansas year in and year out, you are blind or an extreme pessimist.
