IOWA vs IOWA STATE

The key is whether a player can play defense and rebound. I seem to recall that ISU dominated the boards vs. Ohio State last year. Also pretty sure Ohio State had the size advantage. I don't remember how Iowa did against Ohio State last year, but Iowa finished lower in the conference.

Also, the downside of having bigger players is that they can't run with smaller players.

I don't know why people are so worried about Iowa's height. Fred plays small ball against bigger teams most games. I'd love to see Woodbury try to guard Niang on the perimeter but I'm assuming he'll be on the bench most of the game

It's just me but I'd play Kane 40 minutes before I'd play Bubu a second.

What's the estimated time on Bubu talk dying out?

He has no choice against anybody with talent. Woodbury and Olesani won't play starter minutes combined against anyone with a pulse.

Meant to put Fred instead of Fran playing small ball against bigger teams. But yes, Woodbury and Olesani aren't going to be able to play much against ISU unless they play zone which I hope they do.

I know Woodbury is not a better player than pretty much any of Iowa State's post players, but he pretty much out played all of them in last years game.

We played Percy a lot that game (and he outplayed Woodbury since that was Percy's best game last season). Fred has used Niang differently since the start of the big 12 season last year. Most teams, besides Kansas, sat their big man against us if they couldn't guard Niang on the perimeter. Don't know what Fran will try to do but don't see who Woodbury or Olaseni matches up against on the defensive end.

Woodbury will start, but most likely Uthoff or White will be on him most of the game.

I agree, one of those two and Basabe. Don't see Gabe/Woodbury getting many minutes
It all kind of depends on how Woody comes out. If he's actually playing with a pulse I can see 15-20 minutes. I like Olaseni and if Iowa's guards are up to extending the defense, it might benefit Iowa to play two 6'11 + guys to gain an advantage at some points.

Revisionist history. Woodbury outplayed Booker (played 5 minutes) and had slightly better stats than Ejim, who played half the minutes AW did. Gibson and Niang outplayed him.

If Woodbury plays more than 10 minutes this year I'll be surprised. Once Niang and Ejim built some chemistry they exposed similar players.

Still think two big guys will be more of a liability on the defensive end then they will be on the offensive end against ISU. Iowa has better options and Uthoff is better than both those guys combined.

I dont disagree, but Woody played a lot of minutes and hit some big buckets in the game, which is much more than can be said about Ejim.

Woody is not a defensive liability. He might be against a perimeter guy like Niang but having him down low helped Iowa a ton last year.

It won't take long to get Niang or Ejim into foul trouble. Iowa excels at getting to the line, and those two excel at getting into foul trouble.

If he is in ISU will play outside and force him to come out or leave someone unguarded. I suppose they could play a 2-3 zone with him in there.

Please do; please, oh please do.

It will definitely be an interesting game. If Ejim and Niang get into foul trouble early I could definitely see the big boys get more time.

That is one thing that could hurt ISU. I hope both the big guys play as many minutes as possible but not for that reason.
