I'm sorry to have to correct you on one thing CW. You wrote:

I'm sure that you meant since and not sense... though we know Rosenfels makes a lot of sense as well.

Here's a thought--Utah State had a potent offense this year in their head coach's first season, and will be playing Fresno State for their conference title. And their co-offensive coordinator has ISU ties...

(said tongue in cheek)

Edit: Actually, their OC/QB Coach looks like one of those "young turks" people here are looking for...quarterback had 18 td's, 2 ints.

So are you saying we promoted the wrong person from within to be our OC last time?

Future conversation at recruit's kitchen table: "Coach Mangino, can you tell me what happened at Kansas?"

Regardless of what happened, we don't need the baggage. Margin for error too thin this time around.

I disagree. Everybody loves a comeback story. After reading the article about how he's doing now at Youngstown State, I think that kind of story could make someone want to play for him and be a part of it.

Maybe for some people, but for plenty of others not. If my son was a choosing where to play college football Mangino is one of the coaches I'd tell him to avoid.

For people talking about Austin Flynn at Grand View.

I present Chad Morris.

Chad Morris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

High School coach for 15 years. Then OC at Tulsa for 1 year. Then OC at Clemson for since 2011 and we all know how scary that Clemson offense can be. My point is sometimes experience can be deceiving. I don't know about Flynn as OC but I would be interested in seeing Flynn brought in as RB coach. Give him time here. Potential to move to OC in future. Has Texas ties for recruiting.

Here's my favorite scenario:

OC and QB coach - the guy from Wyoming - he has proven he knows how to run the spread at Mizzou.

RB coach - Austin Flynn - He is originally from Texas and would be a good recruiter (young, from Texas, played at ISU) and he is the OC in a spread system that is pretty good at Grandview. With the RB coach position we really need someone who can get into Texas and deliver the talent. We already have Florida with Shane B, so we need the Texas guy.

I think CPR has to have a short list. Wouldn't be surprised if they have used a Search Firm to reach out to those people gauging interest. Seems like for the right Coach CPR would be a guy you would like to work with.

I too would like to see us commit to one style of Offense and execute it. It could be Pistol, or Air raid, just no more zone read up the middle. Reads can be fine, but unless we get a durable QB who wants to run 12-14 times a game, just get rid of it. We saw that if you toss it in once or twice a game it may be effective against WVU with Grant's big run, but that is it.

Crap! I had a recruiter call me at work today, but I didn't answer! I am certain it was for the OC position. Coach - I am totally interested! Call me back!!!

I would totally be okay with this. I think Flynn could be a dynamite recruiter in Texas for us. Coached a little high school in Texas before going to Grand View. The only question would be his absent history coaching that position. Though with a good OC and Klenakis, there would be running game coaching experience there.

I like this as long as Christensen's offense is more balanced than the one he had for a while at Mizzou. Also could care less who is the running backs coach as long as the new OC approves and they can recruit. Hire one of the former Okie State co-eds if needed.

Is there any way the staff could shift around to RB's allow Flynn to coach Receivers or QB's?

Usually and I say usually, the RB coach is a position that can get away with not having alot of experience and is used alot as a main recruiter. This is really dumbed down but coaching the RB's consists of teaching not to fumble, pick up blitzes, holes to hit/proper reads and recruiting.

Am i right in thinking that the RB coach isn't a position where "teaching" is most important. It's pretty much a title for a guy who can recruit isn't it? It just seems to me that most of the time, RBs are what they are and there's not a lot to teach other than protections and things like that.

Mark my words (and only a small bit of overstatement here):
Sage is on the team next season.
Not sure if he will be OC or QB coach, but he will be a part of it. We won't have this confirmed for two to three weeks.

Is this a prediction or inside knowledge?

This is good to hear if Flynn was to become RB coach.

The options laid out by Chris in this article make me very excited. There are a lot of exciting prospects here. I love Sage and would love to see him as an ISU coach someday, but the experience of some of these other guys is really solid.
