According to the Football Scoop, we are going to be opening up a position for an "assistant for football recruiting".

Sounds like a spot for Sage?

I think that some people need to calm down and remember that while ISU does have a lot of young talent on its roster and that may look attractive to a new OC, its still ISU. Some people want to make a big splash hire but forget that if they would have success over the next couple of years then he would be hired by a bigger school. ISU needs someone who will be here for the long haul and has ties to the area that would want them to stay in Ames.

The new OC will have to be a guy that knows who to make adjustments during a game. They need to be able to take advantage of the deep WR core that ISU will have and be able to mix the WR's up. ISU has some tall guys and speedy short guys. Mix it up! Also, get Winberly to catch the ball out of the backfield would be nice because with that speed getting him in space is important. A LB isn't going to be able to keep up with him. All that being said if the O-line doesn't progress and become a solid unit next season nothing else will matter.

Yes, bringing in someone like Flynn would be nice as a position coach to learn the role of a D-1 coach would be great. Sage needs to start coaching at least at the high school ranks before being brought in. He has no experience being on the other side of things as a coach and has never sat down in a livingroom talking to a recruit or parents. CFH was at least in a front office position and at practices asking all sorts of questions. He just didn't come in off the streets to coach.

CPR said the he is going to be on the recruiting trail for the next two weeks and then will start to filter through candidates. Sturdy and coach K are still a possibility or both could be gone based on who is hired as the OC and how much control they're given to run the offense. I would love for Coach K to stay on staff because of his track record as an O-Line coach.

If Sturdy or Coach K are given the job and do great do you honestly think they will stay if offered a much bigger job with significantly higher pay?

Sounds like Notre Dame just lost their OC, Chuck Martin. He is the next head coach at Miami (OH). That is a pretty high profile opening right there, but Brian Kelly is a d-.

Iowa State: We hear Iowa State will be posting an opening for an "assistant for football recruiting". This will be an off the field position helping to run recruiting operations. Look for it to be posted today is what we're hearing.

Wouldn't be shocked if the recruiting position was for Derek Day.

If Sage is a personable guy who can connect with high school kids then that is absolutely the spot for him.

What type of offense did we run back in Seneca's day? It could be a really interesting offense with Sage's passing background crossed with the current read option. Both should carry some pretty decent recruiting clout with their numerous NFL ties recruits may choose Iowa State because it may give them the best chance to get into the pros. I think this is one of the reasons Hoiberg has had so much success getting higher rated recruits because they know he can prepare them for the NBA and give the a chance to play on a top 25 team with National Attention

I dont get the obsession with sage.

See my post in "Who is on the top of your list for OC":

Sentimental reasons.....
Some of our fans are not the only one having these thoughts. A friend who went to Arizona State mentioned everytime there's an opening, some fans always clamored for Danny White

I think a lot of fans see the success Hoiberg has had with basketball and see Sage as the football version of Hoiberg and even if he has half as much success as as Hoiberg could be what CPR needs to push the program to the next level and into the upper half of the Big 12
