Touche. I have since revised my prediction on this very site. I am not one to deny reality, and the reality is ISU looks very, very good. I also won't bet $100 on the Iowa Vs ISU game, as I have NEVER said Iowa will win that game, cause I don't think they will win in Ames, and I felt that way when I thought ISU wouldn't be as good as they are playing now. I do think Iowa is a lock for the tournament. I'll take the bet on the higher seed, if you also take the bet on your claims about Niang Avg. 18-20PPG.

This is getting juicy. Will ForeverIowan take the bet? It's a tough call given Vogs' counter for the Niang bet. The smart money suggests those two bets will cancel each other out.

Where's that popcorn smiley when I need it?

Edit: I'll serve as the Bookie / Escrow agent and hold the money;-)

Haha I will not be taking the Niang bet as I made that prediction before we signed Kane and I also have already admitted several times it was an inaccurate prediction on my part. I will extend the $100 on the higher seed in the tourney however. Take it or admit ISU is in for yet another more successful year Deanvogs. I think Iowa State goes into conference play undefeated. I think they finish in the 13-5, 12-6 area (hopefully better) in conference play. I think that'd lead to around a 4 seed in the tournament. No way no how Iowa is a 3 seed or better.

What I missed: several pages debating who has the best 8th player?

It is all hoks can hope for. Their starting lineup is in no way close to as good as the clones. When hok fan is hoping player number 8 will make the difference, they are just throwing crap at the wall and hoping something sticks. For a team that hasn't been to the dance in awhile, they sure do think their program is 'back.' But I forgot they think the NIT is 'dancing.' And I for one had no idea Hogue and Kane were gonna be as good as they are. Even if they weren't, hoks aren't coming to Hilton during Fred's reign and coming out with a victory. I am very curious to see how many points we will score with the starters actually playing 30+ minutes. The game will be out of reach by the five minute mark and Bo Pelini's chin will explode.

You made the statement about Niang before Kane signed, and I asked you to bet the instant you made the statement. You backed down from what you said LOOOOONG before Kane signed. I only take "sure thing" bets, like your statement on Niang. Iowa being a higher seed at this point is no "sure thing", I got no problem admitting ISU is a very good program right now.

So ForeverIowan, would you admit Iowa is a good program if they walked into Ames and left with a win?

Good team, yes. Good program? Come back in 3 years and if they have a tourney team each year I will say fran has built a good program (for the record I think he could). Hell, Wayne Morgan and Alford made the tourney but ran our programs into the ground.

Jok would get zero minutes for ISU because Fred did not offer him a scholarship despite being in his own back yard. SDW has gotten limited minutes because he has to prove himself on this end also. ISU has a decent amount of shooters on there team that they have to differentiate themselves on the defensive end. SDW has been doing that and is starting to get minutes. Jok gets minutes because they don't have anyone else that can shoot the ball. SDW is just as good of a offensive player than jok and more athletic. He would play in front of Jok if he was at IA.

FIFY.

Good point. I think Fran has done a good job so far. He was really close last year to making the tournament. If last years team understood how to close out games *****cough*****Mich. St.******cough***** (Blowing a double digit lead to Mich St. in the BIG tourney) they make the NCAA last year.

This years team has been pretty good at blowing double digit leads too...they've just closed out a couple of them so far

8-1 so far, exactly what I thought they'd be. They will lose to ISU, and go into conference play at 11-2. It will come down to conference play for them, and if they can hold court at home, and beat the lower BIG level teams on the road.

The win isn't the issue, it's by how much. Watched Iowa at home against ND as I'm sure most of us did, and I think ISU's quickness and athleticism is going to run Iowa right out of Hilton. They have good size and length with White, Uthoff etc, but man I don't think they can stay at our tempo for very long. One legit question I had after that game was whether they typically sit in zone, or was that just based on the matchup with ND? I know anything can happen and it's a rivalry game blah blah, but Iowa would have to play the perfect game to have a chance to beat ISU at the end, especially in Hilton. PS, they have no shot against Michigan State for the B1G title.

Plenty enough to know that Iowa is a slow, boring team to watch, that has almost zero chance of winning in Hilton. I'll own it if they beat us, but I think we are more athletic by far, especially through 7 deep, and they won't keep up.

You have not made the NCAA tournament in nearly a decade. An Iowa recruit has not turned into an NBA draft pick since the turn of the century. No, these are not signs of a good program. You do however have a solid team THIS YEAR. I think the loss of Marble & Basabe hurt the following season. Fran hasn't exactly been tearing up the recruiting trails the past couple of years. We will see what the future holds. I'll start to believe Iowa is a solid program if they are consistently making tournament appearances and are pulling top 100 recruits from all over the country.

Good point, and totally fair. Need to have more than a good team one year, to be a good program. Will you be willing to say Iowa is the better team if they come into Ames and beat ISU this year though?

Iowa is anything but slow pace wise. And White is a freak athlete. Probably a better athlete than anyone ISU has. Luckily he doesn't really have any actual skills.

Todd Lickliter doesn't coach there anymore, fyi. So actually.... if you did watch much basketball, you would know that Iowa now has a fairly fast paced team. They like to get out and run just like we do.

As much as I'm looking forward to going to this game, I'm more nervous about it now than I was before. That's not because I think Iowa is better but because this team routinely shows no sense of urgency in the first half of their games. I have a bad feeling this will be the game we dig ourselves a hole that we can't quite get out of and that results in a tough loss. I would hope that we will have learned our lesson by now but I have doubts that we have yet.

If Ejim, Niang, and Hogue can stay out of foul trouble, we win. If not, we lose.

I really think it might be that simple. If both teams are at full strength, I like the Clones. But if Ejim, Niang, or Hogue have to come out of the game for extended periods due to foul trouble, I think we'll lose.

If this game were at Iowa, I'd pick Iowa also because I think we'd come out flat again and dig ourselves too deep a hole to get out of. But at Hilton, I don't think that will be the case hopefully. The crowd will hopefully have them in the game from the start.
