Favorite for OC job

I wouldn't be upset with the hire/promotion, necessarily, but I would be surprised. As has been pointed out, if this was a even a consideration, why didn't it happen earlier in the season when there were Ws to be had yet? If Mess was indeed calling plays to the end (and I have to believe what Blum witnessed with his own eyes), that told me that an internal promotion was not being considered. Something isn't quite adding up. Of course, it could also mean that our outside targets weren't interested. Although that also leaves me scratching my head as I think the offensive roster would excite at least a few legitimate candidates.

So... I guess I'm just perplexed more than disappointed by the possibility that Klenakis would be the guy.

Doesnt it have to be listed publicly for a period of time?

Not exactly sure what the rules are mid-season, but there are plenty of schools that fire mid-season and bring in an interim coordinator. Texas just did that this year with the DC. But why would you even have to fire Mess...you could have kept him as OC by title, put him back on the sideline (because he preferred to be down there anyway), and put K up in the box calling plays.

Have to wonder if CPR was loyal enough to Mess to let him save face during the season since they do/did have a good relationship and didn't want to put him in a bad spot for his next job since the season was already lost.

Isn't there also mandatory posting laws in Iowa for jobs to be posted X amount of days before filling?

I don't necessarily have a problem with this, but, why the **** did Rhoads wait all year if this was the choice he made? Sometimes I feel like CPR is not the best strategic thinker in the world.

Honestly, it would be a good hire in my opinion. He has a pretty good track record and one bad year under Mess shouldn't keep him from getting this job

People need to get over the 'in house' hire butt hurt. So you don't think K is a good idea because Mess didn't work out? Ok, so who do you think has more knowledge about the entire situation, you or CPR? I get that this is a message board...we are all spit balling here but this idea that K wouldn't be a good hire just because he's already a coach CPR liked enough to hire makes no sense.

If anything, the continuity would give K a huge leg up...the formations he put into place this year will work but it takes time for a program to change the way we did.

Honestly, I think the OL was the weak link on the entire team this year. I would like to see coach K concentrate on JUST the OL. As far as an OC goes, we need someone who can recruit, someone who can get the ball to our playmakers in space, and someone who isn't so damn predictable.

Yeah but they were destroyed by injuries, that's undeniable, and they got a lot better each week after Baylor
