Of course Flynn or Sage won't be OC, but I'd love to see them get their start here as position coaches.
Of course there should be smoke coming .... we're replacing a Pope aren't we?There ought to be some Smoke coming out of Ames one of these days....
In before "that's more coaching experience than Freddie had"Two years.
Gus Malzahn was a high school coach when he was hired as OC for Arkansas and never coached at the college level. He turned out to be a good coach.

Just because it worked out for him, or even in Hoiberg's case does not mean it'll turn out like that every time.
Heck of a coach...he also brought along 4 or 5 of the top recruits in the country. If CPR could find the next Gus it would be awesome!
I love Sage but he has zero experience calling plays at D1. Some will say that Fred did it in basketball but they are far from the same. I think Sage would be great but get some experience first.
I think that most of the people that want him hired, want him hired as a position coach no for OC.
That's great but just pointing out that it is possible does not make it likely.

Yep. I have absolutely no doubt he would be a great guy for molding young QBs. I think he would also be a very young and personable coach for recruiting.
I wouldn't just throw him out there to call an offense in the Big 12 though.
I am just saying experience or lack of it at a given level doesn't mean they wont work out as a coach.
I think he could be a very good candidate to bring as a position coach, all while grooming him for OC. This of course would be if we went with a Wally type of hire.
