Madison came in at around 205 or 210. I really wish he'd be around 230 by now. I really think our linebackers should strive for an absolute minimum weight of 220, with the bigger guys playing around 240. I know there have been some good linebackers in the past who are smaller, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

I'm confused. 212 is fine for a redshirt freshman linebacker. Even as a senior, Brackens is still listed at 215.

My point was that he hasn't added much weight, ie. more muscle since being on campus. He's also taller than Brackins and was brought in for his rush ability off the edge, whether it be OLB or Hybrid Rush End. Doesn't mean he won't find a spot, but he might be a kid that doesn't add weight easily, that's all. He might be just fine as is, but I'm guessing they'd like him around 235.

What are you displeased with?? Of our 10 scholarship linebackers the listing is as follows.

Jared Brackens 6'1 215: Can easily put on 5 pounds by the season, but 215 is fine for a linebacker in a league like the Big 12.

Jordan Harris 5'11 241: This is definitely fine. Actually would rather him be around 235 but he obviously is a brick at that height.

Jevohn Miller 6'1 243: Basically is the ideal size for a linebacker. No complaints there.

Luke Knott 6'0 218: Again close to 220, and he still has a few years for weight and probably hasn't been able to do TOO much after surgery.

Kane Seeley 6'1 240: Great size for a Sophomore.

Darius White 6'0 249: This sophomore is also a brick like Harris. He has put on 16 pounds since season.

Alton Meeks 6'2 249: That is pretty big for a RS Fr linebacker.

Brian Mills 5'10 227: This guy has to be ripped. has put on 25 pounds since he got here. I bet he sees the field this year.

Justin Webster: 6'0 222: Pretty good size for a RS Fr who was an elite sprinter in high school.

Justin Madison: 6'2 212: This guy can easily put on weight. He is a lengthy RS Fr who will probably be 230 by time its said and done.

We have a lot of quality at linebackers this year and plenty of size. I will be extremely disappointed if our linebackers aren't as productive as they should be. Even though a lot of these guys are young, i think there is a ton of talent in our LB's. Not to mention the two incoming linebackers whom i think will both be really good.

Don't think anyone is displeased by anything. Roll of the dice with 18 year old kids, not all respond exactly the same or gain weight at the same rate or time. I think what we are both saying is that Wally envisioned him as a Hybrid DE/OLB rush type, and generally they are tall, lean guys who are quick, but strong enough to battle an OT on the pass rush. Jason Berryman comes to mind or maybe Jevon Kearse in his prime. I was hoping to see him at 220 now with hopes he would get to 235 or so and still retain his speed, & athleticism. He already has the wing span to deflect passes if he doesn't get to the QB. He will be really good by all accounts, but might end up as more of a conventional SAM LB vs. a Rush specialist.

212 is closer to Safety weight than it is LB...

For a senior at least. Linebackers should be 230-250ish as upperclassman.

Our o line last year was to light and thin. Had to do with that stupid strong/fast formation what's his name tried to install last year. Dumb. Good to see we have gone back to just putting on weight and brute strength. I'm looking forward to our oline this year, I think this will be the most improved position, by far. Jamison Lalk is going to be a stud. He was playing really well as a RS fr last year before he got hurt..like everyone else. I really think this o line is going to surprise this year. Especially with the coaching changes as a positive for the o line as every one has indicated to be the case.

I think we're likely to see a lighter, faster guy at the hybrid slot in the foreseeable future in the pass-happy Big12. I think it was Rhoads that said we're really recruiting for 12 spots in contemporary football with that Nickel/Sam hybrid role that Reggan Northrup and Brian Mills are going to be filling here when Brackens finishes up. It's not a true linebacker, but more a cross between a safety and a traditional OLB. Brackens fits the role nicely at 6-1, 215-ish speedy linebacker.

212 isn't a bad weight for a nickel back but I have trouble believing Webster will be a nickel. He played a lot of defensive end in high school IIRC.

Anyone else wonder if Cotton-Moya might switch to CB? Wild guess only based on his speed and lighter frame. Plus we need depth at CB.

Not really. Recovering from an Achillesinjury, I think he's going to have his hands full learning safety--whenever he can run again. Then I think he'll be Moore's understudy and eventual successor.

I'm pretty sure depth at corner is going to come from the true freshmen. Maybe a starter too.

Agreed. I think our corner depth is ok as long as these true freshman are ready to go, and the kid from Florida is supposed to be a stud. I'm still disappointed we lost Rogers. Him and Tribune for 3 more years...... Alas I digress.

Does anybody know how Cotton-Moya is doing? I thought the achilles may even keep him out of spring practice, since those can take awhile to heal and rehab.
