I'm not saying don't get on the officials. Just be smart about it. Don't let a guy drive right past you just because you were unhappy with a no call.

Exactly. Hogue spent a good part of the time waiting for Huggins to bring his guys out of a huddle to explain to a ref what the WV guy was doing to him. Next time down court, there was a quick foul on WV. It wasn't for the specific thing that Hogue was talking about, but it got the ref thinking about calling fouls when they had not been calling many just prior to that.

Why did Hoiberg keep him out so long? If he was making a point, he did it at a cost of Ejim's stats.

He was making a point. How do you let your best player know he made a selfish and stupid mistake? Give him plenty of time to think about it. I think we've seen the last tech out of Big E3 Smalls.

I thought it was a pretty clear foul on Ejim as well. I also think partly why he got T'd up was because he walked straight at the ref.

Watching the replay right now. Just got to that part. Yeah WTF Mel? It was a little bump, then he stopped playing and proceeded to complain. I love the guy, but come on. Eye gouge him to make it worthwhile.

Was he? He went to the table to come back in with about 4 minutes left as i recall, that doesnt seem atypical if he's got 4 fouls.

It is good for our program to have Ejim having good stats . . . and finishing the year with First Team Big 12 honors. Another 40+ point game would guarantee it. This game was a big step back. Fortunately, we will get to see vintage Ejim in the Big 12 tournament.

We were up by 11 with 17:16 to play when he got the technical foul, his fourth foul of the game. He needed to stay on the bench for late in the game. Can't have him out there with four fouls. Had it been his third foul, he would have been out there.

That is one thing I will not miss about Mel.

I love Ejim because he doesn't take **** from anyone. Him and Kane get hammered everytime they go to the basket and it is hardly ever called but if they even breathe on an opposing player it's a foul.

Well that was coach Hoibergs biggest concern was Melvin's stats.....its a conspiracy within to avoid another jersey retired.

With the amount of complaining that he and Kane do to officials, I'm surprised it took this long for one of them to get a T. Don't get me wrong, I love both of those guys, but they need to just play basketball.
Understand his frustration but he needs to understand the situation and not hurt the team. Not good thinkin' there, Mel.

As smart as he is in the classroom, he was an idiot on that play. You can't get a T for your fourth foul with that much time left in the game. Stupid, stupid play by Mel.
Not smart on so many levels. 4th foul, allowed WVU to continue hanging around. Love ya Mel but use your noggin.

Fairly typical to keep a guy with 4 fouls out until around the 5 minute mark. At that point the guys were starting to play pretty well again so Fred decided to wait until the last media T.O. Then he didn't get checked in in time so he had to wait for a dead ball, which didn't happen for a couple more minutes.

I know this might be an aside, but a lot of last night's game where we were playing without Ejim (and sometimes a little Kane) made me feel good about next year. I know WVU is an average/below-average team for in a stacked conference, but we held up well against them without our senior leaders and stat monsters against them.

Run the offense through Niang... can beat anybody down-low 1v1, threat to shoot the three... I hope Naz finds more consistency with his shooting and Thomas blossoms in the sophomore leap (particularly with his shot) under Fred... Morris is more for ball-handling, distribution, and on-ball defense than anything else... Hogue can continue with the "broken play" wizardry, and we'll see how much Nader and McKay can help down-low and how much Custer can be a second point guard/third shooter as a true freshman.

Seeing 80% of that mixture for next year play well together in Big XII games is sure nice/reassuring.
