No, you can't put them in a place that doesn't flood because the business district with the most traffic is in an area which is prone to flooding.

Plus, they've built up that land so it floods somewhere else. :biglaugh:

Interesting on the dinosaur museum. Does ISU have some sort of secretly strong program that would make Ames an attractive place for such a thing?

I'd love for Ames to get a Dinosaur museum. I'd take my daughter all the time. we go to Reiman all the time, but that gets old, and there's only so much you can do in the winter. More family friendly options entertainment would be great.

Is Menards still successful? I used to shop at the Menards in Urbandale but I stopped going years ago. Terrible customer service and other stores had better selections. Went there almost by accident one early evening in January and there were less than 10 customers in the entire store. Creepy.

Would LOVE a Menards in Ames...we need some competition for Lowes. I sometimes go to Ankeny, but then am always stuck with the rebate money and don't want to go back to spend it. :)

In the Cedar Rapids area we have two Menards and they are both busy. As far as your customer service comment...the stores in Cedar Rapids seem to be different than your experience...Menards has much better customer service here than Lowes/Home Depot.

The one in Ankeny is a complete mess for customer service. Whenever I need lumber or anything outside, its a ghostown for employees.

I can corroborate this assessment. I think the product selection and quality is far superior at Menards compared to the likes of Home Depot and Lowes here in Cedar Rapids. The Home Depot more specifically is beyond bad.

Dinosaur museum? Might be a better fit in Des Moines...

The city of Ames always makes me laugh. The short-list of things they want to build is a dinosaur museum and convention center, makes perfect sense.

What are your better ideas for investment in? Not trying to be a smart ***. Just genuinely curious. I know I've got a few of my own.

Because it's not a very big city and college students sure as hell aren't going to be frequenting the place. I suppose they think they will draw from Des Moines but they won't. It's also pretty expensive to maintain something like that. "Ames Considering Building a Dinosaur Museum" sounds like an article from The Onion. It's just ridiculous.
