I'm thirty-seven years old. I watched Victor Alexander play throughout his career at Iowa State. He was a great player, is high on career charts at Iowa State. Does Big Vic belong in the rafters? I am not going to argue against it. But Melvin Ejim I believe deserves it over Victor Alexander. He most certainly epitomizes what Iowa State basketball is all about. Hang Mel's before Big Vic's..

I'd put Victor Alexander before Ejim.

not like anyone would pout if his jersey did get retired. just feels like ISU basketball has been bad for so long that people are settling on a pretty good players jersey being retired. I think the player of the year argument is being a little over blown he got the award which is awesome but he really wasn't much better than any of the others that could have won it. all the best players in the league this year seemed kinda average. wouldn't mind either way though

The best players in the Big 12 were "kinda average"? Three of them are likely to be top-10 NBA draft picks, with a very real chance that Wiggins and Embiid go #1 and #2!

I'm starting to see what CycloneErik means when he says that some people must have a hard time accepting our success.

Ejim has objective success and recognition at the regional and national level.

At this point what possible argument can there be against this? 4 year player. Big 12 POTY. All Big 12. All-American. Most starts in ISU MBB. Most wins in ISU MBB history. Highest single game scorer in Big 12 history. First team Academic All-American. Graduated with honors. Two international teams. Fan favorite. Excellent representative of ISU.

Yet some argue against it? WTF?

I guess his elbows are too pointy. That's all I can figure.

Plus all of his career stats are amongst the best Iowa State has seen! No argument the #3 needs to hang in the rafters

I meant there was no one really that was hands down the best player in the league. and I don't even think of wiggins being one of the best he sucked most of the year.

Go home you're drunk! He was good for 15 points and 7 boards almost every night. And would put up an occasional 25-30 on good nights.

Think back to where this program was 4 years ago. To imagine that anyone recruited here at that time would end up with the most wins in school history would have been crazy.

This program was the laughing stock of the Big XII and 4 years later we have become a consistent upper-teir league team, played in 3 straight NCAA tourneys and just made it to only the 4th Sweet Sixteen in school history!

There have been 2 constants over those 4 years, Fred and Mel. I think it's pretty clear after this season that #3 deserves to be in the rafters.

Since Mel hasn't technically graduated yet he can't have his jersey retired. Have some patience people.

How does that diminish the achievement? If anything, being voted Big 12 POY among several worthy candidates makes it even more impressive. There were a lot of outstanding players in the conference this year, and of them all, voters thought Melvin Ejim was the best. Not one of the best...the best. That speaks volumes.

anyone who thinks it shouldn't be retired is off their rocker IMO....its not due to the McDermott years lowering expectations on it either. Hang his jersey the last home game before senior night next year!

Did Carolina retire Hansbrough's jersey pre-graduation? If not, it was really close.
