That just means they are out of state students that are from Chicago.

I don't think many of these people were not ISU students

Ok, maybe I need to be a bit more clear.

The word I'm hearing from the people that I talk to, who would know, is that, while the majority of kids involved were ISU students, there is a healthy contingent who are not. There were 4 dumpster fires in Ames sunday night, and the people that are suspected to be responsible are a group of chicago residents (who live in chicago currently) that are here because of the week-long party, and are actively looking to start havoc.

Well that is more clear.

Anyway, my guess for this is 18 disorderly conducts and 2 3rd degree murder charges after they arrest everyone today

Cancelling it won't change much. Everybody knows which weekend VEISHEA is even when there isn't one. It's not the on campus activities that cause problems. It's the off campus parties where things start. Cancelling the on campus events only hurts the student clubs that actually put on school sponsored events. The parties will still go on as planned.

It's true that it's the student clubs and organizations would be the ones most hurt by canceling - they put a lot of time and money into this every year and it would be . I had hoped to bring back my children someday so it would be really sad to see VEISHEA cancelled indefinitely. It's disappointing that a small subset of idiots (who very likely aren't involved with VEISHEA beyond getting drunk on weekday nights) could ruin such a great event for everyone else. I don't know if arresting those they can identify and/or putting a curfew in place would do enough. I hope the injured person recovers quickly, that is just terrible.

Doesn't matter where they're from. If it's happening at Iowa State, it's an Iowa State problem.

If the festival is to continue, they need to do whatever they need to do to improve security. Whether that means requiring school ID's to enter the CampusTown area or any other solutions.

The excuse that its outsiders, and not us, just doesn't hold water...

I hope that everyone who is identified is expelled immediately. These kinds of actions should have a zero tolerance level.

How does this "riot" compare to the others? I'm hearing it wasn't as bad as people are making it sound. Mostly a lot of people watching the few acting out. Anyone else hearing that? I don't have the most reliable source, but that's what I've heard from someone that was out there.

In one of the DSM articles or videos, the Police Commander said this one wasn't as bad as 2004.

Just live by the motto, nothing good happens after 9pm. Just start drinking in the am, then you ready for bed at a normal time and let the idiots get arrested.
