They also could have, very easily, put it at the end of Season 3. But by doing this, by pulling this major event right now, in episode 2, they've once again changed the expectations of the show. In season 1, they killed the main character. In season 3, they killed the hero. But they did all that at the end of seasons. You knew that in the last two episodes of each season, big stuff was going to happen. Now, they killed their primary villain.

This is one of the most unique shows on television, specifically because of this sort of thing.

Id have to agree. It takes some balls to place such a major event so early in a season.

Now, who is the king? Jamie?

By law of succession, it'd be Tommen.

Jamie, despite being Joff's actual father, isn't in line for the throne. The throne is Baratheon, not Lannister, despite it no longer being held by an actual Baratheon (since the public doesn't know for sure that they're not Baratheons).

After Joff's death, the succession would go Tommen, Stannis, and if neither of them can take the throne, a regent would be appointed to manage the kingdom until such time as Myrcella could produce a male heir. Barring that, a Baratheon cousin that we don't know about, or whoever Tywin decides to fabricate a familial connection to the Baratheon line for. Not like he hasn't done it before (House Baratheon was forged into the Targarian dynasty during Robert's Rebellion to add legitimacy).

Of course, there may be other theories of who the succession should pass through..... awesome theories.... with gout.

Westeros is going to implode. The Tyrells have no need to be there anymore, the Dorns could take advantage of this situation, Sansa has a husband now in jail. So much **** is going to hit the fan because the Lannisters are not going to feel safe in the capital at all.

The Tyrells still have a reason to be there. They didn't come all this way, spend all this money buying their daughter's second queenhood, just to be turned away by something as trivial as there no longer being a king!

Tywin didn't fabricate anything. It was a legitimate familial link. Robert Baratheon's grandmother was a Targaryan, sister to the King. That's much to recent to fabricate. Now, that doesn't mean it's a super strong link, but when the line of Aerys was gone, (Rhaeger and children dead, Viserys and Danerys exiled) then Robert probably had the best claim.

Loved to see King Joff finally get what was coming to him, but I'm miffed that I couldn't enjoy it since they immediately pointed the finger at Tyrion. It would have been nice to have some time to enjoy his demise.

I appreciated the little person reenactment of the battle of the kings beforehand as well. How much **** is Sansa going to have to go through before she starts kicking *** and taking names? Or did she poison Joffrey?

When Bran "mind-melded" with the god wood tree and saw those visions, they were similar to when Danny went to fetch her dragons in the necromancers tower, season two (i think it was 2). It seems he can see past and future events? Either way, both he and Danny saw the Iron Throne as a burned out husk of its former self...dragons me thinks.

I hate Joff, but that Bolton kid (the torturer) is a the biggest, sadistic ***-hat int he 7 kingdoms. It seems his father wants him to go find Bran, but Jon Snow first. This is interesting to me since it puts characters we know well, together for some interesting interaction. Like the potential for Reek (Theon) to meet up with Jon Snow again, Bolton's bastard and Jon etc... We'll just have to wait and see. Also, didn't Theon's sister take 50 of her best men to go rescue him? If the bastard and Theo leave for the North in search of the Stark boys, when she discovers he's not there, will she herself head North in search of him. That would put all these awesome characters at the wall at the same time potentially.

Great acting between Cersi and Biann. Briann loves Jamie. She didn't deny the claim.

This. I understand that some people are disappointed that they killed off one of the main villains (Joff) so early, but this is a series with tons of villains. Joff was evil, but he was petulant and stupid. His death is perfectly timed, because there is still TONS of stuff still to come this season. Only a testament to the epic-ness of the series when the ruler of the realm, and main antagonist, can be killed off and have it NOT be a season ending event.

Was anyone else slightly disappointed in the manner of Joffrey's death? I was hoping for a slow and torturous, and violent death.... One, directly, at the hands of a main character. Having not read the books it looks as though Joffrey's fool poisoned Joffrey. However, it was good to see the little ****** get his comeuppance.

That would remove the "Whodunit" which we're now presented with.

I don't know, choking to death in front of everyone looked pretty painful and humiliating!

So who poisoned him? I think it could have been Sansa when she went under the table to get the goblet that landed there with Joff was being a **** to Tyrion. Maybe not. She would have had to have been plotting that awhile to just have poison on her and hope there was a time to make it happen. I also think it could be Olenna for some reason.

Yep, both Sansa and Olenna touched that goblet. As did Margaery. All three have great motives to want the little jerk dead. The fool looked like he did, and he was sure on-hand quickly to get Sansa to leave. And is the fool smart/sober enough to be acting alone? And Oberyn was at the wedding (and is called The Viper because of his use of poison on his sword in battles), and had vowed vengeance, and said something to that effect to Cersei and Tywin right before the death. Lots and lots of question marks.

I have to say, they did a great job with suspense here. When he started coughing, I thought oh here we go he is finally going to die. Then Cersei called out "He choking" and I though oh you SOBs...... then for a second I thought Tyrion would be forced to save him from choking.... It wasn't until the blood started to flow from his eyes and mouth that I was sure this was it. I still half expect to see him back next episode.... Now that I think about it...... It seems a little suspicious that Cersei sent grand master pycelle(master of poisons) away just before the poisoning of Joffrey. I thought she loved him as only a mother could, but I now think she might be behind his death, for some other reason....

And what about Tywin? He said that he's going to get Joffrey in line, this is one way to do it.

or, do you believe in magic?

Melisandre burned those leeches with Gendry's blood. She was 2 for 2 on dead "kings." (Renly and Robb) Is she now 3 for 3?

Cersei was my second thought, after the fool. She knows her son's a monster and she has a lot (of power) to lose when the new queen takes over.
