Paul Shirley is dead to me. He has said bad things about ISU. This cannot be tolerated.

maybe he'll avoid the topic of ISU. Maybe he'll talk about Haiti instead.

He comes off like a whiney ***** when talking about his ISU days. Hasnt he publicly dissed Tinsley as well? Calling him stupid or something?

Can one show handle that much snarky sarcasm at one time? For the record I'm fans of both.

Paul says what he thinks. A lot of time it's just what we don't want to hear. He was a part of the greatest team in school history and now has an open disdain for Tinsley and Eustachy. Despite that, I still always find him interesting to listen too.

Yes, a guy who was on the team with an academic scholarship does call Tinsley stupid. It's ridiculous because Tinsley is smart.. er wait what?

To clarify what he has actually said over the years in his articles, he didn't like Eustacy, thought he was kind of maniac that pushed the team too hard in practice, and lost control of any team chemistry on the tourney team that got ousted in the first round. He pretty much said the players ended up hating each other including the coach. He claims we were more than prime for that upset. As for Tinsley, he refers to him as a mercenary that we brought in simply to play basketball and was the complete opposite of a student-athlete. He talked like he never went to class, partied all the time, came drunk to different thing, and had a different set of standards for him in practice (never listened to coach). Lastly, he also referred to Cato as a lazy pile pretty much who never tried very hard at all, especially in practice. Lots of talent, but no work ethic essentially.

I myself don't know whether I like Shirley for being honest or hate him for it yet. However, I just want to clarify what he has and hasn't said since many people like to speculate and assume stuff a lot when it comes to him. A lot of the confusion is because his feelings and comments are spread over multiple different relatively long articles over time, where most probably haven't read them all. And yes, all of his articles have a very sarcastic, negative Nancy, too cool for school (kind of funny and in some ways opposite on this pun) tone.

Me too. Not to mention that Shirley knows Eustachy and Tinsley a lot better than any of us do, so maybe his take on them is a little more credible...

I thought Paul's tweets during the Big XII championships were pretty good. He loves ISU - but moreso when we're handing it to KU.

Shirley has a love it/hate it type of humor and sarcasm. It doesn't work on all, or probably even most. He goes too far with me often as well. But I don't think he has anything but good feelings about ISU.

Larry and Mel... that may be another story. We all understand what Larry is, and what Tinsley ended up being. Paul probably had to endure a ton of **** and is well grounded in his opinion of both. I love LE. Would love to have him back at Hilton if Fred ever left. But I never had to play for the man either.....

There is a segment on the forum that thinks the local newspapers, talk radio, Paul Shirley, etc. job is to only promote ISU and to never be critical or question anything.

Maybe it is the byproduct of the "everyone gets a blue ribbon generation" coming of age?

I loved Eustachy and was PO'd when loser AD let him go. But the guy was a raging alcoholic. There is no doubt the fallout from that lead to tons of dysfunction on that team.

He seemed to be a huge ISU fan based on his tweets during the season. I especially loved his ripping on KU during B12 tournament and Roy Williams when we took out UNC.

I was ****** when he first made those comments years ago, but as time has gone by and others have indirectly confirmed Paul's comments, it doesn't bother me as much. Not every team loves each other and it's no secret that Larry loved to recruit the scratch and dent aisle of college athletes.

I think he is a big ISU fan still, he just didn't have a very good senior year experience and has been vocal about it.
