Count me in the "what do we have to lose" group. We are in a fortunate position of having enough talent locked away from the next few years that we can take a flier on a 7'1" kid with alot of upside. If he doesn't pan out, he goes back to Greece. If he does pan out, we have the size and length that so many on here have been clamoring for.

Feel like at the 30 second mark is going to be a perfect indication of this guy vs Edozie on the block next year.

The worst that could happen is that a Greek student gets a better education in the U.S. and the team gets a good practice player who could turn into something special.

WITH the potential upside John Stamos is a fan and we are fortunate to have Uncle Jesse in Hilton....and they offer Greek yogurt in the concession stands.

I don't expect this kid to contribute until his RS So. year. Endoze will eat this kid up in practice. Heck, I bet SDW could post this kid up and score.

This kid will be a practice player. Think Ellerman on scholarship. Maybe a modern day Skoglund.

Either a hawkeye troll or you're a complete ******* tool. Either way, not looking good for you man.

What exactly about this kid screams high talent basketball player? I'm not a basketball talent evaluator, but to me, this kid looks like he'll benefit greatly from aging.

This guy could absolutely suck and it wouldn't matter. Rarely do you have 12 players that play in games (unless your the hawks). It's not like we invested much time recruiting him either. So he could come in and be a bench warmer and no harm is really done.

What makes you think he isn't? A youtube video? I agree that he will definitely benefit from aging. Who knows how much he will contribute as a freshman, but to compare him to Ellerman is just plain stupid.

What is it exactly about you that screams I am a capable poster? I'm sure you will get better at it as you get older.

Got me on the last name. The only thing I can tell you for sure, it's that the T is silent (my name also starts with a "Ts"). Based on other Greek names' pronunciation, I would say it probably sounds like "Salmpoorees" or "Salmpuris".

The t is not silent. It blends together like the ending of "cats."

I'm not comparing him to Ellerman. I'm only stating that he doesn't jump off the screen as a guy that's going to come in and contribute right away/for awhile.

How about the guys that evaluate talent for the NBA for a living that apparently tipped Fred about this player.

I don't think most 7'1 guys tend to jump off the screen as elite athletes. They're often slow, lanky, and uncoordinated, and serve a MUCH different role than the guys we're used to Fred recruiting.

I'm definitely no expert, but I think he looks pretty decent compared to the other 7 footers that have been successful in D1 ball.

Yep guys that evaluate basketball players for a living identified him as a legit college prospect and then Fred saw enough to want to offer within a week.

But I'm sure some of our posters are working with more info.

Its somewhat difficult because all we see are highlight tapes.....we dont see him getting destroyed, missing a rotation, poor footwork, etc.

Having said that.....he runs pretty well, and has a nice stroke for a 7 footer. Im not looking thru 22 pages to see what naysayers have said.....but theres certainly enough there even in highlight tapes to say hes definitely worth the scholarship.

Tell you what. I'm going to go ahead and curb my enthusiasm with this kid. If he turns out to be the greatest basketball player this side of the Mississippi, great. If he's a bust, great. However, I feel that there's a reason he's coming to the US to develop. It's just not that big of a deal.

This late in the game what is the risk?
Kid turn 18 in June, was being recruited by a couple the professional teams in Greece( Teams that guys like Acie Law who was a stud at Texas A & M, play on)

I don't think he contributes too much next year, given his age, but 2 and 3 years from now who knows.

I like this pick up more than the a 3 point shooting guard from a lower level JC we took a flyer on. You cannot teach height.
