The kid really needs to put on some muscle, but other than that, I see nothing wrong with him or his game. He runs pretty well, looks like a decent shot, crafty around the basket, passes well. It is better to have him 30 pounds light rather than 7 inches short. Modern weight programs can put 30 pounds of muscle on a frame like his in a year.

Try telling that to most of the fanatic base. I got ripped for calling Mr. Norvelle Pelle not very athletic...

I don't think most 7'1 guys tend to jump off the screen as elite athletes. They're often slow, lanky, and uncoordinated, and serve a MUCH different role than the guys we're used to Fred recruiting.

I'm definitely no expert, but I think he looks pretty decent compared to the other 7 footers that have been successful in D1 ball.

When you post about him, please indicate if you have not watched the second scouting video so we can discount your opinion accordingly.

The second video shows much more of what probably interested Hoiberg than the first. He is not just another 7 foot "foreigner."

All I needed to see from any of the videos was he is 7'1" and he is able to run down the court and dribble the basketball at the same time. When you're that big just having average agility and athleticism makes you a desired prospect. There is a reason if you are between the age of 20-40 in the US and 7 feet tall or higher there is a 17% chance you spent time in the NBA.

Yeah if you watch that and say he isn't very athletic or he's a project, you are really not very smart. He's 7'1". SEVEN-ONE. And looks like he can contribute right away.

Pelle didn't make it here because his prep school blew up and it had nothing to do with his athletic ability.

Fred hasn't really busted on any of the guys he's brought in during his time here. He knows how to evaluate talent and I don't see any downside in this commitment, only a lot of potential upside. In 2-3 years after we win the championship, this thread will be revived and people will look back and laugh.

He's hit the transfer market, the juco market and the hs market. Now, he's going international. What is there that Fred can't do?

Yep guys that evaluate basketball players for a living identified him as a legit college prospect and then Fred saw enough to want to offer within a week.

But I'm sure some of our posters are working with more info.

And we, along with other NBA scouts thought Ivan Chiriaev was the next Shawn Bradley :twitcy: [h=3][/h]

So is the new motto "I trust Fred, except in his ability to evaluate foreginers."

I'm excited. I know Fred's teams have been pretty damn good, but there's times where we miss having a big man down low.

Does every guy have to be a 20 and 10 guy that plays at ISU? I remember watching Michalik and Shirley early on in there careers and they did not look all that graceful. Both made a good amount of money playing professional ball and almost stuck in the NBA. For 17 and 7'1", he may grow into his body, develop a shot, and put on some weight. I'm excited to have him on the team because he won't be expected to be a 20 and 10 guy here.

Who do we have that can provide specialty coaching to a guy this tall? Hoiberg has played with them and worked with them from the front office, but have any of our coaches actually coached someone this tall?

I would note that it is has been reported that Olympiacos was interested in this kid. Ioannis Papapetrou who played a year at Texas averaged about 8.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg his freshman year. He left and is now at Olympiacos and is 10 minutes per game, scoring about 4 points per game.

What this all means I'm not quite sure, other than Olympaicos wants him, and Olympiacos currently has a player who had success in the Big 12 his freshman year that is currently pretty deep on the bench for Olympiacos.
