Top 5 markets for last night's Game 7: Chicago 22.7; Buffalo 7.3; L.A. 4.8; Min-SP 4.3; Boston 3.9

Yep but the NHL would TOTALLY rather want the Kings in the Finals than the Hawks.

Dodger game was on ESPN Sunday night. To once again give you some depth with the situation. TimeWarner purchased the rights to the Dodgers. That means people with Dish, DirecTv, and any other cable subscriber, never get to see the Dodgers play on TV, unless Fox or ESPN pick up the game.

The Dodgers are the holy grail in Los Angeles, they are the most important franchise in the city. You have millions of fans who do not get to see them play on TV now and have to find a bar with TimeWarner or listen on the radio.

If the Dodgers were not on TV that night the number would have been higher, the Dodgers are Los Angeles first love, if you now only get glimpses of them, people are going to take advantage of the opportunity.

The attempts at some of you to claim that at this point in time L.A. is more into hockey than Chicago is pathetic. How many more numbers do people have to throw at you? Was there a big Miley Cyrus concert at the Staples Center the other night that took away 20k more potential viewers???

I'd say at this very moment LA is more if a hockey town because they are still playing for the cup. The Blackhawks are working on their short game down at the country club.

Not saying they would be higher, but to think the Dodger game and its current limited broadcast situation did not have an impact is just ignorant. The numbers would have been higher.

By the way how is it that a great hockey market like Chicago, and a terrible hockey market like L.A. set the all time viewership record for an NHL game on cable? That means it surpassed the viewer ship of Boston-Chicago game 3 last year in the SCF. Where were the Boston-Chicago fans? Was it a nice day out in both cities so everyone was out and about.

Chicago is a great sports town, Los Angeles is a great sports town, the problem is it is made up of lots of people who cheer for teams that are not based in Los Angeles. L.A. has until recently always been a destination of where people want to move, doesn't mean people just forget their old loyalties to their old teams.

Fortunately for the Kings, players now want to play in L.A. so they can live on the beach, practice near the beach and not have to freeze the butt's off during the winter.

Why does any of this viewership/fan stuff matter? Just cheer for your damn team. Both LA and Chicago have elite hockey teams.

Because a game 7 in the WCF trumps a game 3 in the Finals. Game 7 is an elimination game for both teams. Game 3 isn't an elimination game for either. Also game 3 was on a Monday, game 7 on a Sunday.

But this is a stupid argument to be having, the Kings are playing the Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Blackhawks are not. Move on to discussing the game that is actually happening, not what game the NHL did or did not want.

LA is a good sports town! Here's what a quick search of ESPN attendance numbers show for the top professional sports in town:

MLB - 84,209 average per game combined for the Angels/Dodgers
NBA - 38,040 average per game combined for the Lakers/Clippers
NHL - 35,486 average per game combined for the Kings/Ducks

LA is a sports town. A highly fragmented sports town, but those numbers show butts in the seats

As of 2012 the average attendance per game for USC/UCLA combined was over 156,000 per game too

Funny, but I don't see anybody saying LA is "more into hockey". All I see is people saying that the LA market does support their hockey team. There is a forty plus year history of Southern California supporting the Kings (and there are plenty of numbers to support it), most of those were pretty lean years.

Kings stuck Chelsa's dagger into the Hawks. Kings/Hawks are 1A-1B in terms of best franchises in the NHL right now.

Kings in 6. Henrik steals a couple of games for the Rangers.

Yep, hard to differentiate between kings and hawks right now. Two solid teams built for the playoffs.

I like the Rangers in the Finals.
