I recently was diagnosed with a right frontal lobe brain tumor. I was referred on to the U of Iowa for removal. I won't lie I'm scarred to death that I won't pull through, and I have 2 young kids, I doubt my daughter would have any memories of me if I don't,
regardless, i to go easy on them if they save my life.

Good luck to you, friend. All hawkeye bashing aside, they know what they're doing at the hospital over there. You'll be in good hands.

U of Iowa hospital is a completely different entity than the typical Hawk fan. Those individuals likely went to Iowa.

Also... they really have there stuff together with cancer work.

I'm sorry to hear about this, I hope things work out well though!

Removing parts of brains is pretty common in Iowa City!

Seriously, hope all goes well for you.

A positive attitude is a BIG part of healing. I wish you the best...they'll take good care of you over there.

Plenty of time for a whole bunch of selfie short vids...that will be fun for your kids to watch regardless of the outcome.

Just said a prayer for you. We are fortunate to have that hospital in the state, all bashing aside as well.

Don't worry, you are fortunate that Shushbury isn't a doc there. Thoughts and prayers of Cyclones are with you.

This is virtually the same situation my mother-in-law went through. She had a brain tumor removed by U of I doctors, but because of the uncertainty of the success of the surgery at the time, she was only projected to live six months to a year........she celebrated 42 years of life after surgery last month.Yes, you will be in good hands; yes, they know what they are doing. Thoughts and prayers to you during this time.

I get around
The U of I Hospital is a totally separate and independent entity from the athletic department and the typical hok fan. The Hospital treats all people regardless of who they are or where they are from. You are not a Cyclone fan when you go there, you are an Iowan and they are there to save your life. They do a wonderful job of it also.

My ex-wife went there in the late sixties while she was a student at ISU. Cancer treatment was in it's early stages and so she was part of their research project on how to cure it. The treatment worked and she was cured and has remained cancer free to this day. The doctors there told her that the most important thing in curing cancer or tumors was to stay positive. Thoughts and prayers for you as you proceed through this. I'm trusting that you will have a very positive outcome. Bank on it.

And change that "if they save my life" to "when they save my life"!

Best of Luck. I have nothing whatsoever against the U of I, it is a great university. I just don't root for their sports teams.

Cy Robb - Prayers go out to you for a workable solution and speedy recovery. UIHC knows what they are doing and you will be in good hands.

Go there twice a year to see specialists for my 6 year old son (and usually wearing some type of ISU swag), which always gets some chuckles / comments, especially from the closet ISU fans that work at the hospital.

On a more serious note, I would encourage anyone to spend some time or volunteer at the Pediatric Specialty Clinic, or other area that you have a passion for at the UIHC (or any hospital for that matter) . It give you a tremendous amount of perspective and you will be overcome with emotion. Like I said, we go twice a year for my son and in some ways my son's afflictions, while significant in their own right, don't seem all that bad in the grand scheme of things.
