I never said that we are expected to lose, but I am saying it didn't surprise me. They played fundamentally sound football, and we are young and not fundamentally sound. We will get there, but Mangino needs time to develop players.

NDSU has 17 seniors and 0 juniors. ISU has 13 (8 redshirt) seniors and 25 (16 redshirt) juniors. If CPR hasn't been coaching fundamentals for the past 5 years, then he needs to be fired. Hiring Mangino doesn't magically solve "fundamentals". Those should have been taught from day one of your RS Freshman year. Also, 34 straight points is a defense issue. Mangino isn't going to solve defensive problems; he's not paid to do that.

Actually I would argue that it is up to the position coaches to teach the nuances of the game, not the head coach. So yes they could have been being taught poorly by our ex coaches, and are now learning the right way to do things. They possibly went back to the old ways in the second half when they got tired. Just a theory, not a fact.

Does Mangino control the defense? The defense that gave up 34 unanswered points to an FCS school? No! Mangino may also be in his first year as the play caller on offense, but only scoring 14 against an FCS school sucks. Clearly Rhoads can't prepare his players and coaching staff to win a game that has made our team the laughing stock of the Big 12. Last years UNI loss angered us enough and this is a tipping point.

Offense looked pretty bad too.

You clearly don't understand football well, do you? It's hard to win with a bunch of freshman defenders, the older guys would have helped us tremendously.

Fine, add Coe and Sims back in. Do the 2 of them account for the 20 points we lost by? NDSU lost 15 players on Defense and held us to 14 points. Stop making excuses. We didnt just lose to Kansas State or Texas Tech, we lost to a freaking team a level below us. It shouldnt matter if we lost a starter a 2 before the season, it shouldnt matter what the age of our players are. It shouldn't matter how new the offense is. FBS schools, especially power 5 schools, should always be more talented then an FCS school, hence the split, yet what I saw today was an FCS school who looked like they were the Big 12 team and a Power 5 conference team who looked like a defeated FCS team who only showed up to collect a paycheck for their university and gave up when the other team fought back. Nobody should be fired right now, but the same freaking excuses over and over and over are as mind numbingly stupid as what the OP posted.

Because K-State played poorly that game. They also didn't lose two straight games to FCS teams like Rhoads has. I still find it funny that you're all over Rhoads's nuts when he's given us our worst loss possibly ever.

Sorry that I'm not a pessimist like you. I'm not going to agree with you and this is getting no where, so time to move on.

It seems like a tough argument to make that the defense allowed 34 straight points. I'd say it was the offenses fault. The offence got the ball after every bad guy score, and didn't do anything with it.

Or did NDSU's defense do what it was supposed to and, yanno, play football and get stops? Chicken or the egg? Argument could go on forever.

The idea that Rhoads is the only man for the job is nonsense. He got historically lucky against nebby and then had one AWESOME game against osu. Besides that it's been buckets of suck including the worst loss in ISU history and consecutive losses to fcs programs. Let's face reality before we go full board McDermott excuse train. What we watched today was pathetic, simply pathetic. The ISU fan base deserves much, much better.

This is one of the best posts today. For all of the money the alum are dropping into the program and the upgrades we are providing, the on-field product we are getting feels like a slap in the face. Rhoads definitely isn't the one for the job and he has never done anything special with this program outside of that Okie State win in 2011.

FBS teams should not get embarrassed at home by an FCS team period. We suck and flat out got out coached.

Kansas, Colorado, Minnesota, and Kansas State say Hi and thats just the last 4 years.. We aren't the first FBS team to lose to the bison. Get over it.

How many more years of fans trying to rationalize our failures and mock fans who want more?

How many more years of being asked to be "all in" before some sort of non-6-6 bowl game?

I think we are easily the first to lose in the fashion we did. I have never seen a program from a power 5 conference lose to an FBS school by 20 and give up 500+ yards. Your rationality seems stupid.

LOL ok buddy, we all knew the defense was young and we also all knew that the offense would take some time to install. If you didn't know this, you were fooling yourself.
Rhoads has been here 6 years. If the defense is young it is entirely his doing. Are you all Obama supporters that still think the problems are all Bush's after 6 years? This is entirely his doing and entirely his fault so shut it.
