Wow, kinda glad I missed it. Had to be away from my desk and just got back now that it's gone final. Hate it when they get "this close" and can't finish off the comeback. Well, on to the ATL where they can hopefully keep the obnoxious war chanting to a bare minimum.

Oakland needs to win today to keep from being swept by Atlanta, which just sucks. The only team I hate more than Atlanta is LA (and it's real close). I thought with as bad as the Braves have been playing lately, Oakland would come in a make short work of them. I guess the A's slump is a little worse than I thought. This doesn't look like the same team that we've seen this whole summer. Aside from the obvious additions and subtractions, something is missing. When watching them now, it suddenly seems like a chore for them to be on the field instead of a joy. If I was any expert on how to remedy these things, believe me, the Giants would still be playing like they did in April/May when they were the best team in the league. No easy solutions other than "keep playing" and hope the wins start coming a little easier (and more frequently).

I'm starting to get nervous now. We couldn't even win last night with Lester on the mound. This team can't hit and losing Cespedes has obviously left a HUGE void in our lineup. Vogt needs to be an everyday player as he's been one of the few consistent hitters recently. Hopefully this team wakes up and takes back sole possession of 1st in the West. Right now, we look like it's going to slip away fast.

Seven games with the Angel$ by the end of the month. It won't take long to find out how well the A's can recover.

The A's made it back home after a horrible road trip and took down the Mets (not that difficult), 6-2. Kazmir looked pretty decent from what I saw. I realize one win does not mean a slump has ended, but I'm hopeful that a day off and a trip home to the Coliseum will do the trick. Now, if we can just get the Angels to enter a nice, long skid...

Oakland has pulled back into a tie with the Angels after taking the first two games of their series in Oaktown! They won last night when Crisp scored on a wild pitch in the 8th. Go for the sweep tonight!

Grey and Lester pitched great the past two nights for the A's. Another good pitching matchup going tonight with Weaver and Kazmir on ESPN Sunday night baseball, expecting another close game with late inning drama. Even with it only being August this series has the feel of a playoff matchup for sure.

In before Buster28 today...

Oakland didn't get the sweep, dropping the last game of the series last night and falling a game behind the Angels in the standings. It's a make-or-break weak on the road, starting with a three-game series at Houston and finishing with four games in Los Angeles. If they can come out on top after this, they'll have a good chance of winning the West (after this week, 17 of their 26 games in September are against teams with losing records).

I've been out of town for over a week, not following baseball at all and I come back and the A's had gone from a 2 game division lead to being down to the Angels (good series win this weekend.) What the heck happened in Atlanta? My God this offense is struggling right now I just hope they can hang on to the wild card at this point although they obviously have a great shot at the division still.

Samardzija pitched a gem last night in an 8-2 win at Houston. That has to be encouraging to A's fans as he's struggled since coming over from the Cubs.

Oakland blew a win at Houston last night. They had a 2-1 lead after 7. Hammel pitched very well and was in line to pick up a rare win. Then in the 8th, Gregerson walked a batter, hit a batter, then gave up a 3-run homer to go down 4-2. The offense took the rest of the night off, resulting in a loss and dropping out of 1st place as the Angels won their game. Thanks, Gregerson. You suck. You sucked in San Diego and you still suck now. He's blown 70% of his save opportunities this season, 3 saves in 10 tries, and for his MLB career, he's 19 of 50 for saves. Wow. Note to the A's: don't sign this joker again!

Hopefully Doolittle's stint on the DL is a short one!

Oakland rallied in the 8th last night, courtesy of a Sam Fuld HR, to take 2/3 from Houston. They start a four-game set against the Angels in LA tonight. Huge series with the Angels up a game in the division and Oakland leading the Wild Card by six games. Here's the probable pitching matchups and their career OPS against the opponent...

Game 1: C.J. Wilson (.612) vs Sonny Gray (.694)
Game 2: Jered Weaver (.618) vs Jon Lester (.624)
Game 3: Mystery replacement for Garrett Richards...probably Michael Roth (.929) or Randy Wolf (junk) vs Scott Kazmir (.895)
Game 4: Matt Shoemaker (one career AB against Oakland) vs Jeff Samardzija (1.284...ouch)

The A's managed to rally from a 3 run deficit to tie it (at 3 each), only to lose in the 10th. It seemed sloppy at the start, but I didn't get to watch much of the middle of the game, so I missed the come-back. Still, you can't be giving up bases to a club with all those hitters, regardless of how it's happening. The Angels have been on my **** list since 2002, but they're really competing with Atlanta and LA for my most hated MLB teams. Plenty of games left and it's only a 2 game lead. I'm not worried - yet. I'm just concerned that Oakland has lost their edge that propelled them to where they were on August 1st.

The offensive life has left this team. They're sinking in Anaheim and sinking fast. The Shark pitched well last night, but it doesn't mean much when you don't get any runs to cross home plate (2-0 loss). It's getting downright depressing to watch the A's flail the way they are. You can tell they're ****** off about how they're playing, but there aren't any answers yet. Still plenty of time, but not that much time.
