Drake lost the game in OT by jacking up a ton of ill advised 3s early in the shot clock.

I think this reinforces the reality that the quality of basketball in the mid-major conferences like the MVC is just not that strong

Um, the Sun Belt conference is probably more "mid-major" than the Missouri Valley. If they had lost to Villanova on that type of shot, your argument would make more sense.

He had Jay Bilas on and I laughed the whole time because he sounded like a whiney hawk fan defending Drake and the MVC to Bilas, I guess Bilas was right.

Some of you folks like to put down Hawk fans all the time tend to act just like them. Drake was the BB story in Iowa this season. Drake had a better year than ISU, Iowa, and Northern Iowa. Complain if all he talked about Drake while they were in cellar not when they have a storybook season.

When ISU won b2b Big 12 Championships and went deep one year in the tourny...ISU got a lot of media coverage. In fact Cotler and others were asking why they were not a #1 seed.

Had they been seeded correctly that year they wouldn't have met Mich. St. until the final four.

The media covers the hot team...this year it was Drake. Next year, hopefully, it will be ISU.

Bottom line - tough loss for Drake.

Stop trying to be reasonable. This is the Internet. Al didn't invent this thing for you to be reasonable on it. Let's get back in touch with our founding father here.

As long as I'm on my soapbox here, I frankly don't have any issues with the media coverage of Drake this season. What the h@ll are they supposed to do, crow about the fact that we went 4-12 in the Big 12 and that Iowa was even worse than we were?

It's issues like this when the BCS-fueled sense of entitlement really bugs me.

How did this turn into an argument about if the officiating was lobsided? Everyone seems to be in agreement that it was a poorly officiated game.

Back on topic (weird, I know), didn't I hear that this is the first time Drake has been to the tourney since the '70s? If I'm recalling that correctly, that makes this loss more devastating for their actual fans, not the ones that show up when they win. I'm not saying it's more devastating than us in 01, especially since the media tries its best to **** in that wound every year, but that was still a pretty devastating loss for them.

Speaking of the media pissing in the wound, is anyone else legitimately mad about Belmont choking at the end last night? That was our chance to never hear about Hampton again.

Unreal. What a crappy way to lose. That was a one in a hundred shot. Fading away, 35 footer with two guys in your face.

Either way, it was a fantastic game by Western Kentucky. They handled the press pretty well, and probably deserved to win today.

Excellent point. I would say there is even a decent chance this team can knock off Uconn if they shoot like they did today.

Agreed that they did deserve to win, but they did have 22 TO's so they didn't handle the press all that well

I firmly believe WKU aught to beat UConn. I had Drake winning the first two, as I've seen both and am unimpressed with UConn.

With the way WKU played - IMO they should beat UConn - as long as they can play close to the same level. I'd venture to guess they won't be in as much foul trouble on Sunday too.

I wouldn't have been surprised if Drake would have won today, but I really felt Thabeet would have given them fits if they faced UCONN.

Yes... for exactly that reason.

I knew Belmont would blow it.

They don't have much of a shot, but come on UMBC!

Wow what a game too bad it ended the way it did but @ least they made it to the tourney. Another Iowa team upset haha. I do kind of see it as a 01 style upset our team was much better but we were expected to do great things and so was Drake most analyists had Drake in their own sweet sixteen bracket. Drake Im guessing will be back next year they are losing alot but whatching the few games I did the underclassmen were clutch when it counted. Glad im not a Drake fan Id be throwing stuff right now

I don't like UConns guards enough. Drake got put up against a team that was built to give them trouble. Quick guards and a pretty good inside presence.
