Rhoads' Contract

Some of you guys need to grow a pair. College football runs in cycles. Few teams stay on top year after year after year. Florida went 4-8 last year. Find me a program that hasn't had a step back.

At Iowa State, our ceiling isn't as high and our floor is a lot lower. It happens. Doesn't mean we have to like it but you can't run your coach every time a season doesn't play out like you want or expect. If you think Iowa State is going to be immune from a bad season or two, you are kidding yourselves.

And if anyone thinks JP is a problem for ISU athletics, I don't even know what to say.

At least those programs are taking a step back from something! And a bad season or two? Other than a few years, that's all we've known. This isn't a program taking a step back from winning national or even conference championships, it's a program that's gone from mediocre to terrible. Rhoads' "good" seasons would be enough to put most coaches on the hot seat...most people were content with Rhoads because the last five years were sold as stepping stones, not the top of the mountain.

It's Iowa State, making a bowl game is considered a good season and if you know the history of Iowa State football you should understand that.

The FIRST thing we need to do is to get rid of all the Haters. They do nothing but create unrest and a negative environment. They serve no purpose. They obviously know little about the history of ISU football.

We are going through growing pains right now. IMO, firing CPR or even the talk o it is just plain stupid. CPR has proven he can coach. Those calling for his head, have very poor memories. We need to take a wait and see attitude. I am as disappointed as the next guy. ISU was dominating in the first quarter. Our schedule was seen to be daunting in the early going. It looks even more challenging with what we saw last Saturday.

Why does the "history of Iowa State football" mean that we should be forever content with a ceiling of six wins per year?

Well - thanks for that "memo."
Good thing the bigwigs at K-State didn't read that when they decided to fire Stan Parrish and hire Bill Snyder.
And good thing for Wisconsin that they didn't read that when they fired a guy named Don Morton and hired Barry Alvarez.

So which Coach do you want back? Chizik, DMAC, Walden. Criner, or Duncan? Those are our Coaches over the last 35 years.

Look back where you have been. 35 years.....5 Head Coaches. C'mon. Do you think it is just bad luck or what?

CPR can coach. He has proven that. Last year sucked. This year has a bad start to it. Fire CPR and you owe a big payout. And IMO, the 5 previous coaches were worse. What is your solution, other than just blindly firing CPR?

For the most part, we have just made the wrong choice in coaches. Every school does. The mistake is in not recognizing it, not reacting to it. Even having a "football history" and tradition guarantees you NOTHING. Alabama made a wrong choice is hiring Mike Shula - and fired him. Hired Nick Saban. Oklahoma made a mistake in hiring John Blake - and fired him. Hired Bob Stoops.

You can win without big bucks (I think that's been proven) but you can't win with speeches about pride and teamwork. I played for a coach like this in college...albeit at the DIII level, and I can tell you, we had talent galore...and a moron for a coach. He loved to talk, loved to hear himself talk and didn't do a damn thing for any of us. His playbook was terrible but you can't scream a team to victory.

Players can only execute as well as they are coached. Watching this game on Saturday, it was clear that we are not disciplined, we are not playing into our strengths and we have absolutely NO CLUE what the other team is going to do. These are ALL coaching attributes. Anyone can learn to block and anyone can learn to tackle..but you have to know when and where to do it. We don't. We have heart and we have desire...but both of those will be gone in a couple more losses.

Where did I say anything about termination?

My question was why are you looking back and not forward? This is a program that has fan and administration support but you throw back to the days of astro turf and NCAA penalties. This program cannot move forward until that frame of mind is gone. The fans are there. The administration is there. The AD leadership is there.

ISU needs to demand and expect a better product.

Two wins. Three wins. Seems like Gene time in any case. If we lose non conf games, the rest can be worst.
