To be fair, Pollard did hire McDermott over Hoiberg...
And I also think he hired Hoiberg to raise ticket sales. I highly doubt he thought Hoiberg would have this much success this quickly. I'm not sure if Hoiberg knew he'd have this much success this quickly.
I would love for Rhoads just to stand up there and blame Chizik. I mean it's been 6 years, seems like there are other people who blame things on predecessors after 6 years.
I think Pollard has done a good job.
I read somewhere that he's the 15th highest paid AD in the country though, is that correct? If so, I think that's a tad high for where the football program is at. Yeah, football is only one sport, but it basically pays all the bills. So if that fails, down you go. And we're close to that if we don't win a game this year.

Wow, did JP really make $900K in 2013? I don't get it, that's almost twice what the Iowa A.D. made and a lot more than many other a.d's who run bigger and more successful athletic departments if those figures on the link are correct. JP has done some good things, but he hired and gave ridiculous extensions to two of the worst coaches in ISU history (Chiz and GMac). Auburn and Creighton saved our football and basketball programs from disaster. CPR started out ok but the program is now looking a little shaky, and JP has our hands tied with CPR's contract. There may be excuses but the bottom line is we lost our legend in Cael Sanderson under JP's watch. It didn't take any guts to hire Fred, who else would have taken the job with the mess GMac left, and JP should have hired Fred the first time and saved us the horrible GMac years. If JP really makes $900K a year, he's the most overpaid a.d. in the country.
Just a short follow up. The new facilities are mostly due to the new influx of conference $. I have never thought Pollard was a great AD, one of the major things an AD is measured by is coach retention and hires. In my opinion really dropped the ball with Cael, Ihmels and KJ. Chizek was a train wreck(2-19) and Rhoads is beginning to looking like one. I hope Rhoads turns things back around, but if he doesn't I think pollard shouldn't get to hire another FB coach.
Did you read the article where it mentioned iowa state? Nope. A lot of fail congrats.

Good post. The most important job for an a.d. at a major conference school is to have a strong football program, everybody knows football drives the athletic department. JP fired DMac and hired a worse coach in the Chiz, and luckily Auburn saved us from that fiasco. The coaching change, the huge tv money and new facilities rejuvenated the program, but we're at risk of losing that if CPR doesn't turn things around soon. I really wouldn't trust JP to hire a 3rd football coach. His background is in cross country I think, and I doubt if he has any experience or knowledge in football. Imo it helps to have an a.d. that knows football because if football suffers, the athletic department suffers.

I looked at the link listing the a.d. salaries for 2013. Are you saying JP didn't make $900K in 2013? Are you saying he didn't hire and give ridiculous extensions to two of the worst coaches in ISU history with Chiz and GMac, and that he shouldn't have hired Fred the first time around to save us from those wonderful GMac years? Just what statements do you disagree with other than I'm going to assume you think he deserves $900K a year.
he made that bonus one year. Does not make it yearly..he is in the 450-500 range this FY.
and were you really against those hires at the time? Hindsight is nice now...
and and now he shouldn't have hired Fred the first time around...it's easy to sit back and actually believe what you post, but it really shows your complete lack of understanding,
