We need to start a poll to vote for the best (worst) meltdown thread of the last few days. My vote is either this one or any calling CW out for getting their hopes up.

The CW call outs were somewhat unprecedented in their pathetic nature. For the record, when this site talks about losing big to an upcoming fcs team for six solid months of off season I'll officially stop reading/listening. Even if it turns out to be accurate who on earth would want to read that?

The comment about Fred- Yes, if I was AD I could have hired Fred. But would I have? Heck no! I would hire someone who had coaching experience. Some big name. Someone who could return ISU basketball to the fun days again. Someone who has been there, done that. A proven recruiter. A proven winner.

Thank goodness I am not the AD. Thank goodness JP does not think like I do. Thank goodness JP hired Fred. Thank goodness for JP. Thank goodness for Fred Hoiberg.

This big time. I doubt there are many people who would have had the cajones to hire Hoiberg. I recall some fairly respectable posters on this site being irate after the announcement, in fact.

nvm, carry on!

Though he did resign her contract last year when UW and their #1 setter came looking.
FWIW, I believe Pollard deserves credit for keeping CJL happy and not looking at other jobs. I've had people in the AD tell me that the main reason CJL has turned down offers or interviews with places like UCLA, Wisc, and Minn (and who knows where else) is the relationship she has with Pollard. That's huge.

On the road...
Fail. Epic Fail of a post.

Do you, as the President, fire someone who has:
-doubled season ticket sales for football
-drastically increased football attendance
-led the AD to record revenue levels
-increased donations
-made major improvements at the stadium
-got the SEZ project funded and under construction
-greatly improved the football facilities including an indoor practice facility
-built a basketball practice facility
-hired a basketball coach who has the program at all-time high excitement levels

If a president fires that person, he/she is an absolute moron.

Don't forget the new track/soccer/softball complex and incredible new golf facility.

I have no doubt that may be a factor. I'm not sure UCLA was ever a contender for her. I'm surprised a bit she didn't pursue to the Wisconsin job with Joe's ties to the state, or perhaps I should say i wouldn't be surprised to find out she may have pursued it.

My biggest fear is she's waiting out the NU job.

Otherwise I think she's genuinely happy in Ames.

Oh ****. Considering who we have for a President, I guess we will be looking for a new AD.

UCLA was interested in her, along with others. I'd say CJL was somewhat interested in the Wisc job - she interviewed and then turned down the subsequent offer. She turned down an interview with Minn. Those are two big-time, heavyweight jobs in the Big 10 - great VB conference. Saying no thanks to them says a lot for ISU - and Pollard.

If I was the president, there would still be VEISHEA and Bubu Palo would still be on the basketball team.

I think Pollard has done a good job.

I read somewhere that he's the 15th highest paid AD in the country though, is that correct? If so, I think that's a tad high for where the football program is at. Yeah, football is only one sport, but it basically pays all the bills. So if that fails, down you go. And we're close to that if we don't win a game this year.

According to this, and by my math, he's more like 25th. Several of private schools not disclosing.

I had no idea he was making that much.

By the way - check out Vandy.

Pollard has been an amazing AD, given the financial/infrastructure accomplishments during his tenure. ISU should be more concerned that he'll leave for greener pastures than firing him.

Hiring a coach can be a crapshoot. Rhodes doesn't appear to be the answer. But nearly everything else Pollard has done is a home run. Hoiberg was a GIGANTIC risk, hiring a guy with zero coaching experience, and he has been brilliant.

Fans can get too short-sighted with their own school, and I think that is the case with Pollard.

SEZ
New press box & suites on west side
New club suite on east side
Bergstrom practice facility
tunnel to practice facility
record season ticket sales
record game attendance

Pollard is not paid to coach, or recruit. He is doing everything within his power to make ISU more attractive for recruits, which IS part of what he's paid to do. You're measuring his salary against the wrong scale.

I thought the dumb threads were normally over by Tuesday following a loss, but I guess with most people not working yesterday, some have not had a chance to voice their opinion yet. I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow.

These threads get stupider & stupider.

I'm waiting for the "You're the Iowa state legislature in 1858. Should you allow a state agricultural college knowing that in 155 years the football will team will lose to lower division football teams in consecutive years?"

I was blown away by the Vandy pay...but apparently the guy was wearing several hats last year, so it makes a little more sense. Still a hefty chunk of change, though!
Per the article...
VANDERBILT: During the period covered by the university's most recently available federal tax return, Williams was vice chancellor for university affairs and athletics; general counsel and university secretary for Vanderbilt and its medical center; tenured law professor . School pay includes $2,009,952 distribution during the 2010 calendar year of money accrued in a supplemental executive retirement plan that was part of Williams' initial offer to join the university in 2000. School pay also includes another $193,921 in retirement and deferred compensation. As of July 2012, Williams' title changed to vice chancellor for athletics and university affairs and athletics director; he no longer had the roles of general counsel and university secretary, but he remains a tenured law professor.
