OL Jacob Gannon has left the ISU program

I am going to throw out a crazy thought. He is a human being. He didn't know 100% what he wanted at the beginning of the season. He was already on the fence, things weren't going well, he picked a different path.

In terms of him "signing a contract," he clearly didn't, otherwise there would be lawsuits every time a player left the team for breach of contract.

A scholarship is a contract. Iowa State offered him a year of school for his services to the football program. The reason players get away with it is because it would be PR suicide to revoke the scholarship.

You signed the scholarship. You hold up your end of the bargain. End of story.

I've played on some truly ****** teams in my days. Teams where we won 1 game a year, 2 if we were lucky. Yeah, we had people quit after a few games. We always hated those people... regardless of if you win or lose, you are a team. You stick together through the nut punches and the victory laps.

I'm sure Campos is a great man and will go on to do great things, but sometimes you suck it up and do it for the team, not for yourself.

So obviously a sane person would automatically assume Rhoads lost the team.

Let's put it another way: 2 senior scholarship starters out 22 total starters and 85 total scholarship players quit suddenly and without warning.

In business, this would be akin to suddenly losing 2 senior, high ranking managers. These aren't entry level guys. If you think a company wouldn't be worried about this, you're mistaken.

Not helping. I think I've forgotten more of that class than I ever learned. For whatever reason, it simply didn't stick with me.

Let's say it's Saturday night, and you have the option of going to a party or seeing a movie. If you choose the movie, and an hour into it you realize it's the worst movie ever made, do you stick around for the remaining hour? Many people would say "well, I already paid for the movie, I might as well stay". A more rational person would say "well, I'm already out the $10 I paid for a ticket (a sunk cost), I might as well leave and go to that party instead."

Same thing with this kid. It doesn't matter how long he's been with the team or how many hours of practice he's gone through; those are sunk costs that aren't recoverable, and should have no bearing on whether he wants to stay with the team for the remainder of the season.

In all seriousness, I think Campos hold the key for Rhoads. If he plays well, and then the move Curtis in, we could see a whole different team.

Starters get kicked off the team, sometimes. Starters quit when they get beat out by someone else. Starters typically don't just quit.

I bad mouthed it when Chiz was here and bad mouthed him (So did many other former players). Anyone who knows me knows I say what I feel and what I see. I don't sugar coat **** and if it gets me in trouble so be it.

One question. If you make a statement about a current coach are you doing it from second hand knowledge or something you've witnessing first hand? Was Rhoads your coach?

On a side note, there is also a big difference between a former player saying something on a CF message board and a former player that earns his paycheck because of ISU.

Ok this is what I got from his cousin who contacted their grandmother and her dad(who is a Hawk legend with the same last name) He has one class left this semester and was contemplating all summer long if he was going to come back at all. He truly is burnt out and is "dying to be a normal person, lose some weight and start working." He is a really smart kid and it sucks that he just up and quit the team but it's better than him being out there and not caring.

Regarding last nights practice, the coaches(was told "new defensive coordinator" so take that one with a grain of salt) were going off on the defense and I guess Jacob got tired of it and just walked off the field. She said it was the straw that broke the camels back.

I've read 60% of this post and I'm burnt out. So 1 out of 1 person that read only 60% of what you wrote is burnt out. I think you should leave CF you've got a worse burn out rate than Rhoads does.

I too usually call up my extended family <24 hours after I quit the team to fill them in on all of my life's choices.
