A) There is absolutely nothing funny about this situation, there is obviously something wrong with the Chemistry of the program or something wrong with this kid in his personal life, because of those I am concerned....but
B) This is probably Brets funniest GIF I've seen in a long long time

Good luck to Jacob in the next phase of his career. Thanks for your hard work.

Bring in Campos. Bring in the guys with fire. Maybe he gives up a little in consistency, but is more aggressive in run blocking and really hits some assignments. I don't mind seeing different players getting opportunities. Are we really going to get worse? Is it possible? Seriously, could we under perform more than last Sat because Jacob is gone?

Honestly, for a team with aspirations for 5-6 wins best case scenario, people are acting like we are out of the national Championship chase or something. Let it go and try to enjoy the games a little.

I also do not buy the players hate Rhoads. I just don't. We have had commentary and insight from Woody who went through the program and there was zero issue brought up with CPR.

Guess I am going to have to spell it out to you because, well I don't like name calling even when it may be justified. He is done in December, he clearly isn't trying to be in the NFL because he would minimize his distractions (such as really difficult classes) if he was, he realized that his career is more important to him than this season (can't blame him, he won't/didn't want to be in the NFL), and would like to focus on finding a job (because believe it or not, its not the easiest thing in the world to do these days). All of this combined is taking away from his focus on the field, so at this point playing isn't worth it. What's not to get?
I think the point people are trying to make is that he should've thought about that before he signed his scholarship last spring. You signed a contract and you aren't holding up your end of the deal and will still go to school on the athletics department's dime.

I can belie it. I had a family member that played at UNI. Walked on for four years finally got to be second string. Then he blew out his knee in camp. Farley offered to try and get him a medical red shirt and he could have a big chance of starting the next year. He turned it down because he just wanted to live the college life. Sometimes enough is just enough.

wherever i go, there i am
I read he was first team academic Big 12 and had the high GPA on our team. By now he realizes he's not going to play professionally after this year. I see no fault in him deciding that spending his last bit of college focused on his studies, attaining an internship, etc. is the best use of his time. As Zack Spears said, it's kind of refreshing to see a kid not have football as his only source of identity. You see far too many stories like Max Hall's, where you don't have anything beyond football, and once that's gone all that's left for you is shoplifting from Best Buy and shooting up cocaine.

Wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. But the timing of the decision is beyond terrible. Earlier in the year, before fall camp, it would be an admirable decision, but the timing of it negates anything admirable about it.

Ok this is what I got from his cousin who contacted their grandmother and her dad(who is a Hawk legend with the same last name) He has one class left this semester and was contemplating all summer long if he was going to come back at all. He truly is burnt out and is "dying to be a normal person, lose some weight and start working." He is a really smart kid and it sucks that he just up and quit the team but it's better than him being out there and not caring.

Regarding last nights practice, the coaches(was told "new defensive coordinator" so take that one with a grain of salt) were going off on the defense and I guess Jacob got tired of it and just walked off the field. She said it was the straw that broke the camels back.

As other people said, why wait until after the first game? And yes I read the second paragraph where the straw broke the camels back but good lord, what did the players think was gonna happen in practice? They would be coddled and told everything is going to be fine? You're a special group of boys and we love you all? The coaches have to be as ****** off (hopefully more) than all of us on here..

If this is truly how the story went down its a perfect microcosm for ISU football right now.

Get punched in the mouth, face some adversity, lay down and quit.

If you expect anyone with any ties to the program to bad mouth the program you're out of your damn mind.

Think Ben Bruns gets to say what he really wants to say on the Cyclone Radio Network? How about Heft and Walters? Most of the guys realize the program is bigger than the coach and by ripping into the coach they sink the program.

I am going to throw out a crazy thought. He is a human being. He didn't know 100% what he wanted at the beginning of the season. He was already on the fence, things weren't going well, he picked a different path.

In terms of him "signing a contract," he clearly didn't, otherwise there would be lawsuits every time a player left the team for breach of contract.

FYI just to be clear, I am not defending his decision. Only trying to explain his rationale.

They might like their position coach. They might like their teammates. They might like Ames. They might like the thought of playing in the Big 12 and have no similar transfer options.

Regardless, we had a starting Dlineman quit and a starting Olineman quit during the season.

If Rhoads hasn't totally lost this team, he's close.

2 guys out of a hundred quit. One because he was burnt out and then he came back, another we don't know why he quit.

So obviously a sane person would automatically assume Rhoads lost the team. :jimlad:

I bad mouthed it when Chiz was here and bad mouthed him (So did many other former players). Anyone who knows me knows I say what I feel and what I see. I don't sugar coat **** and if it gets me in trouble so be it.

Maybe this is the first step of Mangino changing the mindset of this team (or at least the offense).

I think you are fairly straightforward so what have you heard? And how do the players feel about Rhoads?

I also find it ironic that we would criticize a player for "quitting" while we have, by and large, spent the last 5 days on this message board talking about giving up donations, not coming to games, leaving early, etc.

Wasn't MM run out of Kansas because he was a little on the overbearing side? Rubbed quite a few people the wrong way? So we now have him and his life-partner line coach?

Maybe there is some deadwood that needs thinned out that perhaps CPR was unable to see due to loyalty and it's MM's job to toughen them up and remake the team in his vision?
