I'm the piece of ****? Sounds like our OC is the piece of ****. He's a bad guy. It's documented and he was fired from one of the worst football programs in the country despite winning 3 bowls games. Sure, other than 1 season he was an absolutely abysmal 16-40 in conference. The school was too worried they were gonna get sued if they kept him and a lot of the team had turned against him.

It would take a very evil person to try to use a kid's alcoholic dad as a motivator. I don't think that can be denied.

And LOL at the "you crossed a line" crap…don't ever wear cardinal and gold!!!" I'm leaving for Ames right now decked out in the Cardinal and Gold.


Mangino will now no doubt lump in Kipp with the 1 percent of KU players who don't "appreciate" his style of coaching, which style includes:taunting a kid for having an alcoholic father; threatening to send a guy back to St. Louis, where he could get shot with his "homies"; threatening to send another guy back to Oakland, where he could spend the rest of his life "drinking out of a brown paper bag"; poking and grabbing players and occasionally making them crawl across 200 degree turf for the grievous crime of missing a weigh-in. He's basically Don Rickles meets Junction Boys meets Ponderosa.

This is exactly the kind of stuff that wasn't mentioned about Mangino all offseason because people prefer to sugar coat things. His character is highly questionable. There's a reason a guy with his resume was coaching at Youngstown State. I don't think there is anything wrong with saying that because some of the things he has done are awful. There's a reason he didn't fight what he was being accused of at KU. He knew it wasn't worth it because he was guilty, and regardless the end result was going to be the end result.

For those who think handing the keys over to Mangino would be a good thing... I'd be careful what you wish for. He's a good football coach, but his boundaries are not easily defined. I guess you have to ask yourself if you are okay with sacrficing the way the players are handled/treated for the possibility to have a winning football team. If you're okay with that then it would be worth taking a shot on him.

Correct. He has nothing. At best, he has some rumor he heard from some Hawk lover friend of his that wants to see ISU football go down in flames. That's it.

From everything I've heard, Gannon's head just wasn't into it anymore. He's got one class left and then he graduates in December. His head is just not in the game anymore, and he's lost all passion for it too. He just wants to have a normal life again.

This kind of thing happens. I actually am respecting him more and more as each day goes by for his decision. If your passion for football is gone, then don't just go through the motions. Let the next guy step in and play. You're only hurting the team by being out there and not caring.

However, I think he probably already thought this through before quitting. Just walking out of practice isn't technically quitting.

I think he went home from practice that day and slept on it at least one day before deciding to officially quit. I could be wrong though?

Even if he wanted to come back now though, I'm not sure if he'd be allowed to? I guess the team would vote on it, like they did with Coe and Jensen.

I agree with you that he's probably been down in the dumps for awhile. I'm not sure of all the facts however, so I'm glad you mentioned passage of time there. I assumed that he had quit the same day it was announced, but it sounds like that wasn't what happened? What day did he walk out of practice then?

People hit breaking points. If that's all that happened, and if he's as well-liked as people seem to think he is, I'm sure his teammates would understand and would welcome him back (if he wanted to come back.)

Why do you think that is? I enjoy getting inside info and I'm not about to be the one to spill the beans on a message board because I respect my source. It is quite amusing to see how far some people have their heads in the sand, and honestly I would have no problem sharing what I know with someone in person. That's different than posting on a message board for all to see. As tempting as it is, it just isn't my place to do so.
