well many believe he got away with an actual bad act against a woman, so it's not the comment but the person who made it that resulted in a much deserved suspension.
That is exactly the point. A lot of people feel like he got away with something without being punished, (and imho he probably did) so when another incident comes along, no matter how minor, those people are going respond as harshly as possible, to make up for the prior act that they feel he got away with. It's revenge justice, nothing more.

It's punishment for being a ******* moron. No revenge about it.

I think his real punishment will be when the 2nd round of the draft comes around and he sees his name still sitting there.

It's not like he got suspended for the rest of the season, it's 1 game for just generally being a ******* moron. I think that's fitting.

If you were specifically referring to her not knowing what a meme is you shouldn't have quoted the entire post. It pretty much came across as you saying his wife was uncool because she didn't like what Jameis said. Personally I think you owe the guy an apology but feel free to bash me instead, that seems to be your go to move.

There may be some element of that, but seriously, the young man is showing a pattern of "above all criticism" behavior up to and including the game on Saturday. How long should his coaches allow him to behave this way? At what point should they pull him out, read him the riot act and bench him until he figures out he can't be an ******* just because he can throw a ball? Right now, he's really really lousy PR for his school.

I'm not normally one for trying to find the racial angle of every discussion in sport, but I find the comparison between Johnny Manziel and Jameis Winston interesting. Now, obviously, Jameis Winston has been charged with doing one thing illegal (theft) and investigated for one very serious crime (sexual assault) and that's an area Manziel never entered into. However, Winston jumps up on a table and yells something obscene and he's an "idiot", and you know if Johnny had done it everyone would be saying "Oh that Johnny Football..." They both seem incapable of handling the spotlight, but one is labeled as an idiot, while one has been made into a likeable marketing machine.

This argument would would have flown for the crab leg incident, IMO. But this situation is different because of the disrespect towards women that that meme represents, and that's not the kind of attitude a very high-profile guy who was accused of (and probably got away with) sexual assault should be exhibiting (not that anyone else should, either; but for a guy in his position, it's incredibly stupid and reflects very poorly on him, the program and the university).

I don't think a lot of people like Manziel. Manziel's problems were related to stupidity and grey areas (the money roll, charging money for autographs, etc). Winston's problems were crime-related.

Ehh...that would be a rather sweeping generalization, and not a particularly good one IMO. Apart from the Aggie fanatics, there's plenty of dislike for Manziel.

What if he stood on a table and maybe sung a Jay Z song instead? 99 problems, maybe? Would that have been different? How?

The fact that he has one of the top selling jerseys and his merchandise has flew off the shelves would indicate otherwise. A lot of people might dislike Manziel, but at least his "image" was skewed into one that was marketable.

and has he said anything derogotory against women? He might be an immature ***, but his "youthful mistakes" involve money, not women.

I can't believe I'm defending johnny football, but that's a bull$%^& comparison to make and certainly isn't fair to him.

You find me a white quarterback who was treated differently with a similar history with women that Winston has, then we can have a discussion on how race plays a factor.

I acknowledged in my first post that there is the obvious difference between what Winston was investigated for and the fact Manziel has never been caught doing anything illegal. At the same time, what he has been found guilty of (stealing crab legs) and his antics at the student center are dumb, but fairly innocuous. I think it's worth noting that Manziel can repeatedly be an idiot with the spotlight on and still be marketable, and Winston is cast off as nothing more than an idiot.

And, ok, Ben Roethlisberger.
