I saw this question posed in another thread and thought it was interesting. If you could have one thing happen this weekend, which would you choose? Chiek Diallo commits or football team beats Baylor.

I think I'm taking Diallo. I was going to say beating Baylor but then I got to thinking of the ceiling for each program. If Fred can start bringing in a few of these one and done type guys and surrounding them with talent, the sky is the limit. That has to start somewhere with somebody. I'm not really sure what a win over Baylor would lead to except maybe a trip back to the Liberty Bowl. Now don't get me wrong, I loved going to Gus' Fried Chicken and can't wait to go back. I just don't see it going much beyond that.

Baylor... easy.

Football needs more "either or" help than Fred does.

Take the commit. We beat the #2 team in the country a few years ago and look where that got us.

Kind of where Im at. If beating Baylor means we go on to win more games and get to a bowl game that we ......win, Im all for beating Baylor. If not, Diallo.

I agree with both those points. That's why I think this is an interesting question.

Beat Baylor and then let Diallo commit next weekend.

But Fred will find a way to win either way.

I'd take the Baylor win. I just don't have much confidence in Diallo being a major difference maker before moving on to the NBA. Plus, if we don't get Diallo, we will fill that scholly with a great player.

Both. Why bother asking?

If you want to get technical, CPR beating Baylor would mean a whole bunch more than Fred landing one more player.

IMO there is no question you take the commit.

The impact of beating Baylor would be pretty marginal in the general context of future success. Hell, it is rather meaningless if we do not get at least 4 more wins after that or if Baylor ends up with a couple more losses. A singular upset against a top team by itself is big because of what it hopefully means to recruiting. I'll take a big time commit over the hope that a win leads to getting commits.

ISU basketball is on the cusp of having the Baylor football role in this question. A commit from a recruit like Diallo is needed.

Fred is going to win, and if we don't get CD then he will find someone else. The football program could use another shot in the arm, beating Baylor would do that.

I would take the Baylor win every time. Is Diallo THAT important to the basketball program? I think Fred can find somebody who will still make ISU a successful program. I really don't believe that ISU needs a "one and done" to win a national title.

We're a nobody in the world of college football and beating Baylor won't change that one bit. In basketball we're on the road to being a major player, I'd take a big basketball commit 10 times out of 10.

I'd like to add....

If Diallo were to ever look at this poll as any sort of indication as to how much we would want him, I'd advocate dropping football in order to sign him.

Just pandering.

I would choose to beat Baylor, for the simple reason that I have a friend who is a Baylor grad, and I want some Bear Tears.

Also, it takes so much effort not to pummel him every time he does the stupid-*** "slashing bear paw" hand sign.

Diallo and it's not even close. One player can completely change a basketball program. One win cannot completely change a football program.
