From what I've read here, it seems like a lot of people are picking the Baylor win because our basketball program would be "good enough" without Diallo. They're probably right...Fred's shown that he can make us a consistent tournament team without Five Star talent, and I'd be happier than a pig in **** if we could have seasons like the last three for the rest of my life. If you're content with where the program is, you're totally right; we don't need Diallo.

However...

If you want to see this program taken to the next level, guys like Diallo are what we need, because guys like Diallo are the next level. With a few exceptions, Top Ten players are pretty much limited to the Dukes and Kansases and Kentuckys of college basketball. And with a few exceptions, just about every team that's won or even played for a national title in the last couple decades has had at least one Five Star recruit on their roster. As long as we have Hoiberg, the program will be in great shape, but recruiting elite talent like Diallo is the next step in its development. I'd like to see us get there.

9/10 times I choose Diallo but in this case I chose to beat Baylor because it's been 2 years since I've seen us WIN A FREAKING HOME GAME in person.

I just realized this. Thanks for the reminder.

If you weren't at the KU game played on the ice rink at Jack Trice last November, the last home win before that was over Baylor in 2012.

Re: Diallo or Beat Bayor

Exactly. We immediately started bringing in a better class of recruits. Better talent is where wins come from. Any added legitimacy to CPR's program is a shot in the arm, not merely to attendance and funding, but to national perception. Getting Diallo would be great, even awesome, but beating Baylor wins hands down.

Besides, the game atmosphere of beating Baylor would probably help land Diallo. And I'll still take both.

You're so delusional it's not even funny.

Win vs. Baylor: CPR's job is saved and it shows the football program isn't in as bad of shape as I thought...they've looked okay in the last two games. I would still need to see something like 7-8 wins to think the Baylor win was important. The upsets are about as effective as another CPR speech/rant.

Recruit: augments what's already been proven to be a successful era. Can't say it would sustain it though. The program peaked with Marcus Fixer and they still haven't had a team that good since. (any argument on that is forgetting how strong the defensive guard play was in '99-00- also college bball was generally better then)

Just my $.02

Baylor win. Not even a question. Hoiberg and the basketball team will be just fine regardless of any individual recruit. A win over Baylor means a lot more. Plus football respectability is essential for the next round of realignment.

Well that's a downer.

Isn't the Hoiberg era really only starting/coming into its own now that he's had time to turn things around from the darkness of the Morgan and McD era?

This year looks to be pretty good, and next year retains probably three starters (MM, McKay, and Niang) plus whatever Fred can bring in. We're on the upward trend.

Granted, I don't know if Fred has produced teams that were overall better than Fizer/Tinsley yet (though I'm sure the Royce team with Royce and its shooting and last year's team could beat them, definitely not 50%+ of the time, but enough it would be rather competitive.

---

Morris/Custer
Cooke/Long/Thomas
Niang (yes, at the 3)/Nader
Diallo
McKay/The Greek

That would be a fun team. Maybe a little thin in the front court at this point, but, yeah, Fred has to find a compliment to Niang/prepare for life after him soon, and something like this would be awesome.

Getting one guy doesn't guarantee as much either.

It doesn't really, but getting Diallo in the door should help get others like him, not to mention he is a beast himself. Beating Baylor wouldn't get us into a bowl game. A win over Baylor wouldn't do anything but put us at 2-2. We would get some momentum, but we don't have a sleeping giant team in our hands or a strong team that needs motivation. This is a bad football team. We weren't recruiting when we were going to bowl games, so going to another isn't going to change much if we even get that far. Getting Diallo would have a much better chance at effecting a program.
