The Jerry Kill Comparison

Nobody's saying Kill has it all figured out. Only cyclone fans could run down an 8+ win program.

My point is, if any has actually watched both programs play games over the past 6 years, it wouldn't even be a discussion. Night and day, Minn is a better program right now. Which is ok. We just need to get there.

IDK. I'll give Jerry Kill credit. Everybody makes fun of him cause he talk weird and is different. He won me over, by building a winning football team from a ****** program Mason and Brewster ran into the ground.

Kill's motto is 'brick by brick'. WTH is CPR's?

We've played each other in the last 6 years; care to guess who won?

It's not "night and day" at all, and that especially wasn't true a couple of years ago. Do you remember when Kill was having seizures all the time and people were questioning whether Minnesota had mad a huge mistake hiring him? Obviously I'd take their past couple seasons over ours, but if we swapped schedules with Minnesota I think you'd be surprised at how similar the results would be. They've taken advantage of an incredibly weak schedule so far (what's it say when a P5 team is 7-2 and just barely cracked the rankings?) and good for them, but to claim that they're light years ahead of us or anyone else is preposterous.

Yes I do remember people questioning his health. I was on the fence myself. I also dont get the head-to-head argument for a comprehensive view across 6 years. One game we won against them, great. We also beat OSU, does that mean we are comparable to Okla St.

Hyperbole aside, I think Minn is better than ISU today. I like Kill and would take him/Clays/Limegrover over CPR/Mangino/Wally.

Also, Kill has done this with zero fan support. Zero. He is reduced to writing op-eds in the paper begging students to come to games. Brand new TCF stadium and all. Gophers will never be top dog in the cities, but its funny that IS has great fan support and a crappy product, while Minn has zero fan support and a decent product---B1G not-with-standing.

As i said, he can only beat who is on his schedule. He cant control that Mich is garbage, Penn St is garbage, Neb is garbage, Iowa is garbage, etc...

Another difference is the fact that they play an easier schedule. This weekend Minnesota will play their first top 10 opponent since 2009. For God's sake, Jerry Kill has never played a top 10 opponent at Minnesota. How many ranked teams has Jerry Kill beat at Minnesota? How many ranked teams has he played?

He is doing a great job and your point is well taken, but I suspect that Rhoads could and would have a similar record to Kill if he was at Minnesota.

Hell....in this the season to end all seasons at Minnesota, they have lost at Illinois. Very similar to losing at Kansas.

Also Isn't Jerry Kill one season removed from losing to NDSU?

Will add that CPR ra-ra style wouldn't last one year in MSP. I cant begin to count how many columns i've read by Patrick Ruesse or Sid hartmann's ghost, or Jim Souhan shredding coaches (re: Ron gardenhire) for not winning.

Nobody in Ames/DSM writes an article 1/10 critical as in the S.Trib

He wins because Minnesota plays in the Big Ten. Even we would win at least 7 or 8 games with their schedule. They are improved, but their record is a bit inflated. I can't wait until the Big 12 ads a few more teams.

2 weeks ago the Big 12 had 40% of the conference ranked below 70, 22% of the Big 10 was ranked below. ISU would have to play in the ACC to get the amount of wins you think. Lowest rated Power 5. Btw, ISU is the third lowest ranked Power 5 ahead of Wake Forest and Vandy.

Minnesota sucks. Their schedule is garbage. Not that tough to win 6 games in the Big 10 West. Year in and year out. Nothing against Kill, but it's apples and oranges.

WAY better to be 2-10 in the best league than 8-4 in an average league?

I think to many people watched Minnesota for the first time against Iowa last weekend and think that they are actually a good team.

You're right, he can only beat the teams on the schedule. But that doesn't mean we can't look at those teams and determine that they are garbage, and raise a little suspicion as to whether Minny is way ahead of ISU at the moment.

There's no doubt that Kill is trending in a different direction than Rhoads. But unless you acknowledge that he is playing a completely different schedule, then your argument is not nearly as valid.

Again, someone should look up his record against ranked teams. I doubt he's beaten more than 1.

Kill can go a long ways over the next month in putting these concerns to rest. He has chances to play and beat ranked teams.

Where are you getting this from? Minnesota plays in the worst P5 Division according to Sagarin. Big 12 is second only to SEC West.

Minnesota could not move the ball on a Big 12 team until 3rd stringers were put in the game. They lost to Illinois, it's a very weak division and weak schedule they and Iowa play.

He got it from the alternative universe where the "third lowest ranked team" didn't beat his team. At their place. Pfffffftttt.

Didn't someone post that Minnesota was facing their first top 10 team since 2009 this week? Yeah, that might be a part of the "resurrection" that's been going on there.
Misleading stat is misleading. They played TCU at the beginning of the season. While they weren't ranked at the time, last time I checked they were in line for the playoff. It's just that no one knew how good they really were at the time. Yes, I know Jerry got pasted...

Jerry Kill has trended up every program he has ever stopped at. When he took the job in Minnesota he was on the record and transparent of how he was going to be relevant in the Big 10. He was open with the media, recruited his type of players, played an easy schedule, qualified for some bowl games, got buts back in TCF Bank, and is still improving the gopher program. Everyone dismissing him and his cupcake schedule you're missing the point

They couldn't move the ball until starters came out, still kind if proves it. 6-6 big 12 team most likely, maybe 5-7 or 7-5, we've been there already but apparently can't maintain it.
