For some fool reason, this hasn't been addressed yet, and that's disappointing.

The real problem with last night rests squarely with CW and his relentless CF Hype Machine. Without his relentless homerism, I never would have expected 65 wins and 2 national championships this year. I never would have expected triple digits in a season filled with 25-30 point blowouts. I wouldn't have expected 17 foot tall players draining 3s while teammates dunk at the same time. I wouldn't have been surprised to stumble in last night, which has to be the single greatest defeat in the history of sports or sports entertainment. I would have just understood that we are Iowa State, accepted failure and gone on with life. I could even have understood that a team could have a bad night here and there.

Maybe, just maybe, CW will learn from this and start posting more realistic expectations for the team, now that we can't win anymore than 35 games and 1 national title this year. Thanks a lot, CW. This one's on you.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a pile of tickets to burn.

And you forgot the fans at our neutral site game outside of the state of Iowa (on a Tuesday night before Thanksgiving) were BAD.

Fred said they were dropping the national championship banner this year. If that doesn't happen, I will no longer trust Fred.

I have to agree. Last night made me realize this is how I've been assuming the season would go:

Chris Williams should spend less time at the Iowa Clinic Men's Center and more time doing some REAL RESEARCH we wouldn't have this problem.

First - our coaches name is Frank, not Fred
Second - How can you have Georges as a top player in the country, HE ISN'T A GOOD ATHLETE!
Third - Does this team pay man to man, or match zone? NO ONE KNOWS!
Fourth - Why does your website show Ads for Blazing Saddles in Des Moines? THIS IS NOT WHY I COME TO CF.

I wonder what wonderfully, hyped up BS we will hear the rest of the season to get butts in Hilton. #ChrisWilliamsIsAHack

FINALLY someone has told me whom I should blame for the unmitigated disaster that was last night's game!

I thank you, Erik...kudos to you for your wisdom and foresight...

If you're going to get exposed -- and if you're not Kentucky, you probably are, then Nov. or early Dec. is the time to do it.

I don't blame CW for any 'hype.' Nearly everyone else I knew was onboard the Hypetrain, too.
I couldn't help but notice that Jay Bilas was not. He said that he just couldn't believe ISU was a top 15, much less Final Four tema, because we still don't have any physical defensive "presence" on the inside, and/or don't play tough enough on the perimeter, either.

Here's what I think (and who cares, right?).

1. McKay will make things better. Unless he is the second coming of Bill Russell, however, it will not be as "better" as most of us hope. But better. He is not the physical "presence" that Bilas has doubts about, but he will block shots, and he will score on the inside in ways that even George and Hogue cannot.

2. Hogue has got to be in the offensive mindset of the UConn game, not just the "energy" and "garbage" mode is is known for. That means an intermediate jump shot game.

3. Thomas still cant guard a St. Bernard. He's either gonna have to learn what all good defenders learn -- how to anticipate, no matter what their "athleticism" -- or his minutes need to be limited to situational "zone breaking."

4. BJD will be soon become one of the premier players in the XII. Period. He will progress on the same scale as Lucious and Kane, which means a LOT.

5. Edozie deserves minutes, even after McKay.

and 6. and most of all:
Other teams have talent. Get used to it. Maryland is just first face slap of other nights to come
. "Hoiball" is not a panacea against other teams playing the style they want to, and often making us play in ways we don't prefer. Just as we can make other teams look like they're playing on their heals, other teams, especially half-court, strong shooting teams, can make us look that way.

I know that some people hesitate to call out the big dog around here, but sometimes the hard work just has to be done.

I'm hoping that the team steps up to my example of courageous leadership before they fall permanent victim to CW's relentless CF hype machine.

They are all just out of gas. Some are even low on oil. And the tires need more air.
