I think comparing our MBB team to our FB team right now is a bit outlandish.
As a former player I respect your opinion so I will ask you, what in your opinion are the biggest gaps on this team that need to be addressed and what indications are there that the next 1-2 years will be better? Maybe you could specifically comment on the OL and DL because to me that seems to be where we are furthest from actually competing (just a layman's observations).
Hahaha, this has always made zero sense to me. My feelings about the football program and basketball program are polar opposites. You act like the two are comparable at this point.
Fwiw, have class with two of the players on the team (not going to disclose names). They are both offensive players. Said Rhoads is a great guy but an average coach. They said they had heard rumors of Mangino becoming HC, and would be happy with that. They were raving about how great of a coach Mangino is.
thank you, I was totally creeped out by the number of people who liked that post. wow. Hoping they were liking something else that the poster said. And the crazy thing is, all this venom against people who haven't jumped on the fire him now band wagon, is so misplaced. I'm like you in that while I like Rhoads, and hope rather than believe that he can turn it around, I'm not either a CPR lover or hater. He's just our current coach. There will be another some day, whether it's sooner or later, pretty rare for any coach to stay in one place forever--those days are gone. What I am is a Cyclone lover, and see little benefit to fans pulling their support of the entire football program because they don't like the HC. Honestly, If that tactic would actually work, I would be it's cheerleader. Right now, I just believe we are better off retaining him than firing him. I reserve the right to change my mind. Lot of scary anger expressed. It's why I post only every once in awhile.
They are a top 25 team now because they whipped up on us, but they won't be in the top 25 for long.
If Pollard asked Leath for $5.25 mil - TODAY - to buy out Rhoads, Leath would get it for him.

I feel the same way about Barta. I've never liked him. He has hitched his horse to KF's wagon as well. I think the mediocrity we've seen in Iowa City in the last several years is unacceptable. If Kirk's ship goes down Barta's should as well. Especially when you look at the other programs at Iowa. Barta used to be able to ride on the success of the football program. Now that the success has been dwindling he doesn't really have a leg to stand on. Then when I look at the whole women's field hockey scandal it makes me dislike him even more. I'd throw Sally Mason into that mix as well. It's like Hawk fans are chewing on 5 year old gum. The taste wore out a long time ago and most of us have no idea why it's still in our mouths.
I am sorry you missed my point. My point is he is always on here ******** about football saying he isn't going to the next game because they aren't winning, but then BB comes out and gets whipped by a team they should have whipped and he says nothing about that.
I know you can't compare what is going on in football and basketball right now. But imo if you are going to ***** about football losing you sure as hell better also ***** about the BB team getting whipped by a team they had no business even playing a close game with.
You would probably start hearing the equal negativity if our basketball team starts having 9-23 type seasons (which is about equivalent to football right now)
At this point, it doesn't matter how good of a coach Rhoads is. What does matter is that the players don't hate him and that he can go out and find a good DC. If he can do that, he has a chance. He did very well with his hires last off season, IMO and hopefully he can do it again.
Id maybe hope he reevaluated his hiring methods, but no way I want JP gone. If he continuously refused to fire CPR after 2-4 win seasons maybe, but I'm convinced that CPR needs to make a bowl game next season or JP will fire him.
I agree he did well with his hires this past off season. But my question is, who is going to want to come in and be the DC when they know Rhoads has 1 year to win? I don't think many people.
I would also not be shocked if we lost some assistant coaches to different jobs this offseason.
When Hawkeye fans argue against Pollard or Rhoads, even sincerely in their own minds (I guess?), then that's tells me Pollard and Rhoads are doing something right.
I've never argued to a Hawkeye fan that I thought one of their coaches should go. I was really hoping that Alford would stay. That written, I think you should move on from the Brands brothers. No national championship since 2010...give it some thought.
