Did you give up on the BB season because they lost to a team that is not very good in Maryland? Or do you just like ******** about FB?
Hes the one that calls his mommy to pick him up after the first quarter since Iowa State is losing.

I agree that he has done a lot for the AD at this point. However, if the football program continues to falter then it won't be long before that is noticed on the bottom line ($$$$). Fortunately for Pollard the Hoiberg hire has created a tremendous amount of interest in basketball so I could definitely see that saving his job.
However, football at a Power 5 school is a HUGE part of the success of any Athletic Director. As it should be. It either brings in the most money or it creates a source of embarrassment for the school. A couple years ago CPR had things moving in the right direction. Iowa State was starting to shed its reputation for being one of the worst programs in college football. Now after the past two years the program is circling the drain again.
I'm not saying Pollard's future will be decided by Rhoads ability to resurrect the football program. I don't know if it will or not. I do know that he made the hire and ultimately it is my opinion that he should be held responsible for it. When you make a hire like that and it ends up resulting in possibly a decade worth of mostly poor football that is your fault. Would you want that same guy to make the next hire? I wouldn't.

Hahaha, this has always made zero sense to me. My feelings about the football program and basketball program are polar opposites. You act like the two are comparable at this point.Did you give up on the BB season because they lost to a team that is not very good in Maryland? Or do you just like ******** about FB?
3 things:
* Did someone really compare a "good fan" to a battered wife? That's appalling.
* Why don't the moving GIFs work on CF for me anymore? I did nothing and they stopped animating on IE, though they continue to work on my tablet.
And back on topic:
* I really don't know where I land on this yet. I like Rhoads, and I still think he can turn it around. However, 6 years is long enough. I think. Honestly, I've become apathetic, and that's probably worse for the program than a "fire him" or "retain him" fan.
That's a very nice way to put it.Fwiw, have class with two of the players on the team (not going to disclose names). They are both offensive players. Said Rhoads is a great guy but an average coach. They said they had heard rumors of Mangino becoming HC, and would be happy with that. They were raving about how great of a coach Mangino is.
You mean a top 25 team?
If Pollard asked Leath for $5.25 mil - TODAY - to buy out Rhoads, Leath would get it for him.I know that argument has been "explained" many times here, but I'm not sure we have $4 million to spend next year. That is 25% of our football budget in a year.
How about you go worry about Barta? No one cares about your opinion here.

It'd take about 3 calls and they'd have the money. If Pollard asked Leath for $5.25 mil - TODAY - to buy out Rhoads, Leath would get it for him.
Yes, he would. Pollard just doesn't want to fire him. End of story.
You would probably start hearing the equal negativity if our basketball team starts having 9-23 type seasons (which is about equivalent to football right now)I am sorry you missed my point. My point is he is always on here ******** about football saying he isn't going to the next game because they aren't winning, but then BB comes out and gets whipped by a team they should have whipped and he says nothing about that.
I know you can't compare what is going on in football and basketball right now. But imo if you are going to ***** about football losing you sure as hell better also ***** about the BB team getting whipped by a team they had no business even playing a close game with.
Yes, indeed they would. It'd take about 3 calls and they'd have the money.

I cant control the crazies, if you look at my post history I've been on radio silent this year. When things are this bad and the negativity gets overwhelming I just stay away.
I think Jamie is a fantastic AD, he has built a foundation at ISU. Facilities are the best they have ever been etc. The budget that he has to work with limits his ability to operate from a contract standpoint. ISU cant pay FB head coach and MBB head coach, WR head coach and WBB head coach top dollar or even really competitive rates without killing the other programs or facilities plans, we just cant. As a counter JP offers Loooooooong term deals, which if they work are great, if not then here we are.
I want CPR to win, I really do. Not only because he coaches ISU but because he seems like a legit good guy and he really does care about his players and coaches etc.
Your comment about "thanks to fans like you" just rubbed me the wrong way. I've been a Cyclone fan for a long time, and I have been a donor for as long as I have been able. I've been there to support this team and I have done what JP and CPR have asked. I've bought tickets, made donations, traveled to bowl games and I've been in my seat every single home game since CPR has been here, except one. That was the WVU game this past weekend. I chose to save myself the grief and disappointment. I haven't enjoyed a football game at Jack Trice since the Baylor game three seasons ago. That was the last game Jake Knott played and honestly it was the last time it felt like this team had any guts.
If you are still 100% on board with JP and CPR then good for you. I wont bash you for it, hell I applaud your resiliency. Quite honestly I don't know how you do it.
Personally it isn't worth it anymore for me to spend the money and the time supporting this program.

At this point, it doesn't matter how good of a coach Rhoads is. What does matter is that the players don't hate him and that he can go out and find a good DC. If he can do that, he has a chance. He did very well with his hires last off season, IMO and hopefully he can do it again.
I feel the same way about Barta. I've never liked him. He has hitched his horse to KF's wagon as well. I think the mediocrity we've seen in Iowa City in the last several years is unacceptable. If Kirk's ship goes down Barta's should as well. Especially when you look at the other programs at Iowa. Barta used to be able to ride on the success of the football program. Now that the success has been dwindling he doesn't really have a leg to stand on. Then when I look at the whole women's field hockey scandal it makes me dislike him even more. I'd throw Sally Mason into that mix as well. It's like Hawk fans are chewing on 5 year old gum. The taste wore out a long time ago and most of us have no idea why it's still in our mouths.
