I agree with Blum to an extent. However, as I read that I see "bad hire in Messingham" "failed pistol experiment with Klenaikis" "Recruiting misses leaving us bare for 2013". All those things have to fall back on the man making those decisions, right?

Yep, and nobody will argue any of that with you, but the basis for the Rhoads supporters is 2012 was so darn close to being something special, and had it been some consistency may have followed. Long term there is still a little bit of reason to think CPR might be an incredibly special coach and some think he deserves one more season to prove that one way or the other.

For all CPR has given us Im ready to give him another year. He is undoubtedly on the hot seat but he deserves a chance to right the ship imho.

Agree with Blum 100%. CPR deserves the chance to make it back up the mountain. Biggest difference between McD and CPR is McD had the horses for NCAA runs and couldn't make it happen. I was on board with him until the final season when he had 3 high level talents in DG, Brackins, and Gilstrap, and they looked no different than any other year.

More suckage next season, and 2 or 3 wins at most, then it's time to blow the thing up.

I am a fan and I read Blum's article. Nice read and I was partially influenced by it. Then I thought what if I give my annual donation and buy more tickets and then have to sit in Jake Trice and watch UNI beat us again. Oh man, I don't want to see that again, ever. That said I believe that it is a very real possibility.

I don't know whether CPR should stay or go. I'm more concerned about whether I continue to buy tickets or find something else to do on Saturday afternoons next fall. I'm leaning towards doing something else. Sorry, I am just burned out on the losing.

How anyone can list all those mistakes and then conclude we should keep him, is beyond me. The plan for success in ISU football is easy. Secure a superior head coach (Majors, Bruce) that can recruit better than our opponents. THEN when you have this coach,..... give him what he wants to get him to stay. That is where we failed in the past. There are so many possibilities for good head coachs, go get one and start building. Instead what we have is clear - next year will be another train wreck. Sad really.

Can't argue that. Who's to say he won't continue to make stupid mistakes every couple years.

You have some extremely low standards.

I have been on record saying I think it's time to move on and get rid of CPR. I just think there are two sides of the debate, both with good reason. Blum stated the side I don't necessarily agree with, but he did it very well. And at Iowa State, making a bowl game is a huge accomplishment. Only four coaches have gone to bowl games, Majors, Bruce, McCarney, and Rhoads. Two of those guys won National Titles. Another had the season with the most wins in school history, and reinvigorated the football program. I simply giving credit where credit is due.

Great article, really lays out why Paul and ISU deserve 2015 to right the ship....and explains just how foolish it would be to rip things apart right now.

If you are the CEO of a company, and you have to go in front of your Board of Directors and tell them you are operating at a massive loss, do you think you get to keep your job by saying "Listen, this isn't my fault. We have terrible management, we've lacked innovation and we keep hiring ineffective workers, but aside from that I've done a really good job"?

So basically the key to buying time at iowa state is too hire bad assistants.

I'm on board with one more year. But if they scuffle their way to another 2 or 3 win season then it's time to move on. ISU isn't a quick fix program but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be expectations, and consequences for failing to meet those expectations.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see where an actual reason is stated why he deserves another chance, just a summary of the past few years and a reference to K State.

Paul Rhoads deserves another climb because..?
