Yep, me too. He makes no sense sometimes, and doesn't have much basketball insight, but he is entertaining. Loved his description of Monty's nut shot.

I'm with you. He is definitely entertaining. And as a viewer, I care MUCH more about being entertained than messing up on a name or a word or two.

Plus I love the fact you can almost tell what side Musberger has bet.

I'm not a fan of Musberger, but if he's calling our games it means we are more than relevant. Beings Fran is with him it cancels out his lack of knowledge.

After watching Iowa-UNC called by Vitale & then Musberger calling the game last night, I do firmly believe these guys need to retire soon. Vitale has created his love/hate persona very, very long ago but from a pure basketball-IQ (for a commentator) standpoint the other night it was one of the worst calls of a game I have listened to. Brutal. Needs to hang it up. Musberger has the iconic voice and at least does not try to analyze past his knowledge point. He does try self-create the magnitude of the moment plays too often & messes up with names, but he does his job calling the game & leaving the analysis to Fran.

Where they love the governor
Early in the game, Musberger said BDJ had played at about six other schools before Iowa State. I know he was exaggerating intentionally but that's annoying. He's played at three.

Also, the "Transfer U" schtick is so dumb now, yet I heard it a dozen times tonight. Our starting lineup consists of three HS recruits, a JuCo and a graduate transfer. Our main bench players are a transfer, a HS recruit and another JuCo. AKA 2 out of 8 main contributors are transfers.

The arcane Fr. Flanagan reference was heard as well.

Maybe he meant Cylons?

lol. that's exactly what I thought.

I like Musberger somewhat and I think he does a good job when he calls ISU games, but I did ask my wife last night - does he sound drunk to you?

Musberger and Fran are the best announcers we can hope for. They are entertaining, Fran really knows his stuff, AND they both genuinely love Fred and they Cyclones. I wish every game was done by them.

Anybody catch Fran mentioning Mckay has been known to take some plays off here and there? Pretty sure that won't happen under CFH.

Like it or not, Brent and Fran are A list announcers, but I admit being a bit annoyed by Brent's drool cup repeatedly clanging against the microphone.

I get people that were annoyed by the football talk, but iirc a lot of that happened when the game wasn't particularly close. Of course their chatter is going to wander off-topic when the game is looking like a blow-out. And it would be hard to keep the tangents too basketball-centric because it's still early in the season, the narratives haven't really solidified yet.

I wonder why the Nigerian Nightmare's story doesn't get more attention. They talked about their guy but I don't think he was living on the streets of Compton. Maybe Daniel doesn't want the attention?

That will be the personal interest story during the Final 4! Kool-Aid anyone?!

The problem is who do you replace these guys with that is better? Lets face it the talent pool isn't very deep when it comes to doing games. I would rather have an older top tier guy do games than a lower tier guy that is bad on air.

What did he say? I was watching the game in a bar where the Monday night football volume was turned up so i couldn't hear the bball game call.

A) He is 75 years old lets not hold a couple slips of the tongue against him.
B) When he does a game, it brings a bigger sense to the game.
C) The football plugs are probably mandated by ESPN, also when they went down that road the game was decided, and his job is to entertain the audience to keep them engaged. He does this as well as anyone.

If you go to Old Chicago maybe you can have a drink with him.

He is going to have to drive a long time before he finds a sonic.

I work at oc but wasn't there. I talked to the closing manager from last night. Fran, Brent and a few other ESPN guys stopped at OC after the game.
