Morris, BDJ, and GN are locks to stay in the lineup. At the beginning of the season I was saying Morris, BDJ, Dustin, GN, McKay. However, seems like Naz is bringing a lot to the table as well. I can't say who I want.

So, who's out?

Will depend on matchup. Also, would be surprised if McKay starts right away.

I want to say Naz, but with a lineup of Monte, BDJ, Hogue, Niang, and McKay, we might not be able to spread the court as well, therefore teams may sit in a zone. So, bring Hogue off the bench?

Whatever happens, it will be a lot of fun.

Hogue has been bricking 3's as of late. IF he doesn't start producing more I'm not sure you can justify sitting Naz.

Can't remember if Hogue and McKay played together at the same time for Indian Hills? Anyone? If so, I'm thinking it's Naz who sits out until Fred needs a shooter.

Just because he isn't starting doesn't mean he's "sitting". The minute distribution will be the same regardless of who starts and I think that'll be based on matchups. People take the starting lineup wayyyy too seriously.

I don't see us not having Matt or Naz starting at any point this season as Fres loves to stretch the floor and have a true 3 pt threat in the floor at all times. While other guys can hit the 3, Naz and Matt our are cold blooded 3 or threats, so if McKay starts, I see Hogue being the 6th man most of the time....but McKay may not start this year, or maybe not until early Big 12 games.

People take it seriously because Hoiberg coaches by 'feel'. More often than not that mans the starting 5 stay on the floor in tough games. I forsee 75% of Big 12 games ending up being 'tough games'. I think Naz needs more minutes than Hogue if that makes more sense for you.

*This past game Hoiberg notably subbed more*

Way up there
Fred has an NBA mentality when comes to playing time, the best 5 guys won't necessarily be starters. NBA teams (and ISU see UNC game last year) start a lineup they know can be competitive to get by the first few minutes of the game, see how you opponent is playing you, see what adjustments you can make and sub based on that. Not starting a guy can be just a strategy too. Fred has shown he is a master of knowing when/how to use a player.

The UNC game was a perfect example, we all knew Naz would play more than Edozie even though he didn't start. Why? BC the small lineup was our best lineup. That was clear to everyone but Ol Roy

The answer to this installment of SmellyTP's daily thread queation is: Naz Long. He's the perfect 6th man.

Also, I'm coming to realize more and more that it makes no difference who starts, it matters who finishes, and Naz is always out there at the end.
