Way up there
Rivals had him listed as a 3. I'm not sure what he played at Indian Hills, but he's fast and athletic enough he can definitely play the 3 if he needs to. I'm not sure if he's a guy who can guard every position or not. My guess is he'll be a 4 or 5 in our offense, and depending on the lineup we could see him guarding the opponents 3 on occasion.

He played 3 at IHCC, was the lead man on their full court press.

Some of you just got punk'd by mjacobs. He made up the tweet. Real tweet was: "Iowa State fans, I didn't say the guy won't be solid. Relax"

I've seen Morris send snapchats of McKay hitting threes in practice(and several dunks). Royce didn't hurt spacing either. McKay will hit a three here and there pulling the other teams center out at times opening the lane for someone else to drive. Obviosuly won't shoot many threes, but if they leave him open out there he can hit it.

Will have a huge impact on defense though, and will get more lobs than Clyburn did. We will probably get more second chance putbacks by him too which can add points up quick.

If you add McKay who needs to be close to the rim, then you add McKay's defender close to the rim as well. Suddenly spacing the floor to open easy drives to an unguarded rim is nullified. If you take McKay and send him out to the perimeter to pull his man out there then you have a guy that basically is guaranteed not to be guarded which leaves his defender free to basically play center field and wit to block shots. Suddenly, the "five guys that can score from anywhere on the floor" goes out the window. McKay will be a big help on defense but he will bog down the offense at least some.

So you've seen him play a lot then? I fail to see how this description is much different than Dustin Hogue, only McKay is 3 inches taller. Did Embiid bog down the Kansas offense last year. Maybe they would have been better off without him.

KU's offense is built around having a low post scorer; ISU's is not. Apples and oranges. Who knows, the guy that coaches college basketball for a living could be completely wrong and the people that watch it as a hobby could be 100% correct.

Isn't there also the possibility that McKay, you know, got better in the last year under Fred?

We have a great post player on offense in Niang. We need a taller player to play next to Niang on offense when teams try to double team him with size. We need someone to play interior defense. Hogue/Ejim already fed off of this, a player McKay's height could take advantage even more.

Not sure why people even think we even have this gigantic void to fill in offensive post play when we have Niang.

ISU's offense under Fred is built around utilizing the talents of the players he has on that year's roster. His offense has had a little different flavor every year he has been here. I have to agree that Fred, the guy who coaches basketball for a living is probably correct when he says that McKay will add a dimension to Hoiball that it has never had.

You realize Fred changes the system about every year right? He's not some old idiot stuck in his ways.

GTO and VeloClone are so dumb

Probably his smartest tweet of the day.

For the record, this is what I look like most of my day at work.

KU's offense is built around having the refs in their pocket; ISU's is not. Apples and oranges. Who knows, the guy that used to coach college basketball for a living but can not find a job and doesn't watch every game could be completely wrong and the people that watch every single game their team plays and actually pay attention to comments of the people that would know could be 100% correct.

I agree with all of this.

At this point, everything is just a blind guess. Until McKay actually plays Hoiball, nobody has any idea. BDJ is a completely different player from the past 4 years of D1 experience. Hoiball changed Kane last year. Did anyone think Royce White would play Point-Forward until we saw it happen when he started playing Hoiball? Until McKay is on the floor logging Hoiball minutes, no one knows what he will become.
What he does also is keep Georges and Hogue out of foul trouble. That was a problem two years ago. Foul problems are a thing of the past with mcKay.
