Nova is a pretender, but I think Gonzaga is the real deal. Very much a final 4 caliber team.

Which is possible, but the problem is the only "somebody" they've played all year is Arizona, a loss. I mean ISU gets flack for their schedule when Gonzaga his virtually played nobody.

Gonzaga has legit talent and does what they can non-conf...but I feel when you remove the underdog spirit from the lesser conference teams they are often just faced with a step up in competition in their second round game. To me a team like UNI is more of a threat in the tournament because even though they've been ranked, they have a major chip on their shoulder unlike the Zags who are a media favorite now for years.

They deserve the high seed, but that's why I won't be taking teams like Gonzaga and WSU to play to seed where I might have some other mid majors pulling upsets.

The ideal realistic scenario (at this point of the season) is Iowa State getting a 3 in the region that Villanova is the 1 and Gonzaga is the 2. I think we'd probably be the Vegas favorite for the Final Four.
Two words:

Hell Yeah!

If ISU were the 3 that would definitely be the best scenario. Villanova would be a weak 1 seed.

That's not really true. They played 6 teams in the kenpom Top 55, and only 3 teams (1 non-Div 1) outside the Top 200.

We played 5 teams far worse than the worst team they played (#235 Southeastern Louisiana). kenpom has their non-con schedule at #41 in strength (we are #255).

I know my argument is played out, but I'm not a Gonzaga believer. They look good on paper, but their two senior guards have 3+ years of history of playing pretty poorly whenever a good team makes things a little difficult for them. Their frontcourt in alright, but not as good as it was two years ago when Bell and Pangos sucked against Wichita State. I hope I'm wrong, because I like the little guy, and I like Pangos, but I don't know.

I suppose K-State deserves to be in right now but I saw on twitter than they will be underdogs in their next 7 games and Kenpom predicts then to finish with 7 or fewer conference wins.

But hey, K-State has 3 top 50 wins which is two more than Iowa.

Past performance isn't an indicator for future performance but Gonzaga has NEVER advanced past the Sweet 16 in 15 years under Mark Few. All of those high seeds, and not once. That is very telling.

There are some contrarians out there that like to make the argument that Gonzaga isn't soft anymore, but I don't think it's based on much other than simply being contrarian.

That's what I don't get. Peyton Manning gets labeled as a playoff failure because of his past performance. Gonzaga, year in and year out, is a media darling in the NCAA tournament but haven't even made an Elite 8!

Villanova could very well lose tonight @Georgetown. I have no idea if Villanova is any good or not. I thought they were good last year, but UCONN took them down, and in hindsight, a healthy ISU probably would have as well.

Amen. I suppose a disappointing tournament to be expected when you play in a soft conference...I'm not sure how beating up cupcakes for two months makes a team that much better.

I might actually (gasp) root for Iowa to beat Wisconsin. We need Wisconsin no where near Omaha.

What about the Kenpom Top 50?
