I'm guessing he'll be our starting wing next season..have no problem with that at all.

I agree. Possibly 8 starting quality players. I think Matt is a great player who just happens to be a little weaker in a few key areas than the other options.
Matt never seems to get the open corner threes like Naz does. Not sure why. I think Matt is more comfortable playing on the wing and not in the corner because he has more room to operate out there but it's also a harder shot imo. Corner 3's are pretty well-known as a great shot. Matt needs to sit in the corner for a few possessions and see if he can knock down some treys off the catch rather than off the dribble.

Thanks for stopping by.

Huh? I think Nader is a very good player and i think he is just beginning to really come into his own on this team. He just needs to stop that play. Which the last game or two, he has.

It's kind of like early in the season Morris was pulling up just inside the 3 pt line and shooting that long jumper that he missed more often than not it seemed like. Looks like that's been taken care of too as he's driving further into the lane now instead of pulling up.

Anyways, sorry if my intent didn't come across in the earlier post. I wasn't trying to say i don't like Nader as i think he is another game changer with his skill set.

I love that he's seeming to have these "on" games more often now. If we can keep getting these out of him and somehow get Matty going so he can have a couple big games and solidify that 8-man rotation where anyone can really go off that would be so awesome.
Hopefully it continues. If we could get this Nader in 50% of the games and the Thomas from the Ok St or Bama games in at least 1 out of 4 games, we would be a different team. I also think Edozie could give us a Maryland type game as often as Thomas gives us a good game, but the rotation has been set. Let's just hope we never need Edozie.

Our bench is pretty thin, but we basically have 7 starters. It's definitely a nice problem to have, especially when it's a different guy every game that's coming up with the big shots.

Speaking of our short bench, is it possible that Edozie has a grade issue from the fall that hasn't been cleared up. The reason I ask is the local media has steered away. I know McKay is cutting into his minutes big time but there have been situations where his skill set could of come in handy plus the kid was playing the best ball of his Cyclone career.

He gets open ones but almost always hesitates. Right now I have more confidence in Matt hitting shots in which he is not open. It has been said before, but optimistically Matt just needs to have a great game to get rolling on offense. Pessimistically, his game may not be suited for being a shooter. Fred was running some sets for him against KU, which is great. He may be a guy that needs to be a "scorer" before he is a shooter.

I doubt it. I think his grades are probably pretty good tbh. Also Hoiberg has said recently that he has been looking to get him and Custer in for some playing time. Bet your butt that if ISU gets in some foul trouble, you see those two guys playing and stepping up big time.

I mean this with nothing near disrespect, but Darth Nader has to be, far and away, the best 7th option in the country. What a phenomenal weapon to have sitting at the ready, and he's getting comfortable now.

I love nader but Kentucky may have something to say about that

Honestly, I thought that Matt was pretty bad tonight. His play has now resulting in him getting nothing more than spot minutes. At least BDJ does a few things well...rebounding, posting up smaller guards, dunking on the break and that little dribble pull-up. What does Thomas do well? He rebounds OK. Hits a couple threes about every 5th game. Other than that he's a defensive and offensive liability.

Thomas was brought in to be a shooter. If he can't do that, he's going to get recruited over.

Thomas is starting to concern me... Hopefully he has a big game this weekend.
Nader however... My man! He is such a baller. Anyone else thinks he starts at the 3 next year??

Disgusting read. Thomas is out there for a reason. Why aren't you lobbying for Custer to take his minutes?

I really want Thomas to have a breakout game but he was beaten repeatedly on defense tonight. If he can elevate his defense, he'll increase his minutes and have some big games. His ballhandling and passing have been improved from last year. Just needs to focus on defense.

At the end of last season, I thought that he was one of our best perimeter defenders. And that was a huge improvement from earlier in the season when he was a major liability. Seems to me that he has regressed back to where he was a year ago at this time.

Offensively, Naz is a good comparison. No matter how bad of a game he's having, you know that Naz is going to hit at least one 3 a game. Possibly 3 or 4. Thomas usually gets 3 good looks a game. He'll go 2-3 one game (like OSU) and then follow it up with four games where he goes 0-3. He needs a dose of Naz's confidence. I think that he can be a good role player for ISU, but he really needs to step it up or his playing time is just going to continue to drop.

You said in another thread that Naz and Monte are poor perimeter defenders and now you say you thought Matt was one of our best perimeter defenders at the end of last year? What games are you watching?
