I had mine done in a van...it was way cheaper than the dr's office.

I don't remember much...but my *** hurt like mad for about a month. I thought the rash went away...but it's back.

I don't want to scare you...you just need to know the truth. But they told me everything looked A-OK so I got that going for me.

I drank the lime flavored gallon of crap the day before. Have some hard candy you can suck on under your tongue
if you have to go that route.

be very near a bathroom

Then a couple enema's the days leading up to my surgery.

Then a couple laxative pills the night before. Be close to a bathroom there too.

For the month leading up to it, I ate a lot of jello, pudding, etc. no tomatoes, grapes--any fruit/vegetable with a skin. and no bread.

I suppose I should leave my mark on this thread.
They told me not to drive home, but I plan on driving. Onlylive 1-2 miles away, can’t be that tough. Anyone want to talk me out of it?

Any foods that I shouldn’t eat 2 days before? Was thinking about making a huge meal 2nights beforehand before the fast. But also don’t want to screw myself overduring the prep because of that.

You can’t eat solid foods, but I assume you can eat yogurt? Ice cream shakes? Soup? Is that true or not? Or do you just not eat. Any suggestions on what you can or can’t eat?

How bad is my bill going to be? (I have insurance)

They recommend you don't drive, but I drove home. You will need somebody there to say they are driving you home, but my wife came out and we had two cars there so I just drove home.

I can't remember what they give you to relax you, but I wasn't too relaxed and felt every little bit of that darn scope. I thought it was going to come out of my mouth at one point. The only good thing is you can watch the procedure on the big screen.

So it's just like having your head up your arse, like most people have been accusing me of having for the past X amount of years!

General anesthesia, no driving - even for a couple of miles. If you don't have friends, get a cab.

Fasting isn't necessary until just beforehand, unless your doctor told you to fast longer. Otherwise, you can eat jello (any color but red or purple). Clear soups (broth only, no noodles), juices. Lots & LOTS of water. Check with your doctor about the milk products, but basically you want to avoid anything that might go toward forming a stool (or coloring everything red). That huge meal may be a bad idea if you have a slow metabolism. The less you have "processing" when you're taking the prep, the less difficult the prep will be.

That one depends on your coverage...and any agreements your insurance has with the doctor/hospital. Call your insurance company to see how much they cover.

All I was allowed was water, coffee, Gatorade and hard candies.

I have that CDHP plan where preventative stuff is covered so my colonoscopy cost me $0 out of pocket.

I don't remember a thing about the actual procedure, I went in got an IV and the next thing I knew I was waking to a sore butthole and a $20 bill on the nightstand.

I expect I am the resident expert here since I have actually lost count of the number of colonoscopies I have had, has to be well over a dozen, probably way more. The latest was just yesterday and that was with chromoendoscopy or blue dye that I call Smurf dye. 2nd one of those in the last 18 months and 3rd scoping in two years. :(

Got 0.1 mg of fentanyl and 2 mg midazolam IV for the procedure. I stay pretty awake through these but lots of friends doze off and don't remember anything. Seeing your insides all dyed blue isn't something I would want to miss considering all of the nonsense you have to go through for the prep. Strong dye and I peed blue until late this morning. Actually peeked through into the small intestine yesterday which isn't a easy scope maneuver past a diseased and sacred chunk of intestine. My exam doctor is the same guy who I have been seeing for over 25 years so I am getting the exam from the same expert that has been treating me. I think I'd be hard pressed to find a better option.

If you don't have a driver sign in for you at the clinic I go to they will refuse to do the exam. Doing otherwise is like declining a designated driver when you have been drinking and insist you are "just fine". Just stupid is more like it.

The newest prep using only 64 ounces of Gaterade and MiraLax is 100% easier than the old gallon of nasty-*** **** they used to have you drink.

And there is no ******* way in hell I would ever do this in a mobile exam van.

Conclusion: Hey, it's a colonoscopy thread after all, I didn't start this thing!

They are not going to let you leave without someone else there. I have had a lot of them, not once could I have driven home. The anesthesia you get is pretty powerful stuff.

Nice thread resurrection. I've had several now since this one that started the thread.

Anyway, I always eat a big *** Chipotle burrito beforehand and do just fine with the prep. The new method of drinking 4 weeks worth of Miralax and taking some Ducolax is not that bad at all. There was one time with other stuff I resorted to smoking a cigarette to kill my taste buds and chugging just to not throw up.

I wouldn't recommend driving. I usually feel kinda spaced out for a few hours after but this last time they knocked me out pretty good though. It was at a teaching hospital so there were about 5 or 6 students with the doctor and the nurse. They needed practice.

I apparently need to find a new place to go. I'd rather be knocked out or at least goofy and relaxed. Instead of feeling like violated!

Yeah I was a awake through one of them. They noted that on my file and gave me more of that white stuff next time. Snowed for hours after. Took a good 12 hrs to have the will to move after the last one.
