Anyone know how long the procedure takes?

Depends on why you're having it. Mine take longer because they have to go all the way to the secum. If they're only doing part of it, much faster. It also depends on whether they find anything they need to remove; polyps are common on 40+ folks, usu benign but can lead to colon cancer. If you have a family history of colon cancer like I do, they're a little more picky than if you're just going in for your first "old man" look-see. If you're clean, it's about 20 minutes. Nice thing is, no incisions, no stitches.

Thanks. Only reason is family history, so I'm expecting the 20 min. Ok, what is the deal with the burrito? Serious?

I had one done last week and was awake through mine as well. I remember asking them questions and they said they were surprised I was awake and aware. I was pretty loopy afterwards though. For anybody who has never had one and is nervous, it really isn't bad. The worst part is the fasting prep and the juice that cleans you out.

19210 feel sorry for you. They doped me up so good I never even knew I went back to the aftercare room. I told the Doc on the follow up, he could have shipped to Thailand and I would have never known. So my recommendation is please don't drive 78. Prep and thinking about it was worse than the actual day. Hope your results turn out OK.

I've had 7 (I have ulcerative colitis) and have never been in shape to drive home. Couple of tips:

*. Tell the doc to wait just a bit before starting. It's amazing how that little bit of time is the difference between feeling violated and not remembering any of it. Gives the drugs time to work.

*. The prep - buy a couple of lemons and cut into wedges. Suck on one before each 8 oz. glass. It still tastes like a combination of raw eggs and snot, but it's much less noticeable.

They recommend you don't drive, but I drove home. You will need somebody there to say they are driving you home, but my wife came out and we had two cars there so I just drove home.

I can't remember what they give you to relax you, but I wasn't too relaxed and felt every little bit of that darn scope. I thought it was going to come out of my mouth at one point. The only good thing is you can watch the procedure on the big screen.

So it's just like having your head up your arse, like most people have been accusing me of having for the past X amount of years!

I was out cold. I would not recommend driving. Still a zombie. Plus if anything happened you would be looking really negligent.

Good stuff.

I read the letter that came with the prep stuff, and they are requiring verification of a driver, so I will not be driving. Awesome advice about telling the doc to wait a few minutes, will definitely do that. And I bought 2 limes. This thread is seriously a must read from beginning to end for anyone that is doing this.

I don't see why not. I simply say, "hey,doc...wait a couple of minutes before you start, so the meds take effect.." Not once have they refused.

I get a 2 liter of sprite and leave it open so all the carbonation goes away and then I gargle it after each glass. Keeps that horrible taste at bay.

I am out way before they start. I usually get about 4 sentences in when talking to the nurse and then I wake up in another room.

When you guys drink the prep stuff, do you chug it or sip? I'm kind of freaking out about how bad that is going to be. Mine is a 6 oz bottle to mix with water so that its 16 oz. And I have to do it twice.
