It is. But in comparison to most midwestern states, Wisconsin's list is pretty par for the course.

Hi guys another MU fan here.

Tonny Bennett was a hell of a player before he was a coach. He was a star for his dad at UW Green Bay. Some of you may recall when that Green Bay team came within a whisker of beating 5th ranked Michigan State in the Tournament. Steve Smith was the on that MSU team.

Tony played in the NBA for 3 seasons before a foot injury ended his career.

Tony Bennett (basketball) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Others on that list of note.

Wesley Matthews is a 3 year starter at Marquette who just went over the 1000 point mark.

Damon Key is the 7th leading in scorer in Marquette history Played on the sweet 16 team that beat Kentucky in 1994.

Mike Wilks has played in the NBA

Sam Okey was Big 10 freshman of the year at Wisconsin.

Joe Wolf was an all ACC player at North Carolina and was a first round draft choice.

We also shouldn't forget some pretty good Wisconsin players who didn't win Mr. Basketball. Steve Novak(finished 2nd to Butch) now playing for the Houston Rockets. Travis Diener(2nd to Harris) now playing for the Pacers. Caron Butler played in racine but finished his high school career at a prep school out of state.

As far as Scott is concerned. What a great kid he is. He won't be a star for you but he is a great shooter that should be able to find a role on your team given a chance to fully recover from his injury.

I like getting these shooters, even if that's what they are limited to. I think that with Diante and Buckley, we will have a PG that can penetrate and kick out. Wes should provide a similar advantage. Also, if Craig continues to progress and Notorious VDB is a solid player, having guys who can just roam the 3 pt line will be a big advantage. I'm not certain he'll contribute, but between him, Lucca, and Eik, I'm betting we'll get 2 very good players that will hit a lot of 3's by the time they're done at ISU. I would be very happy if he can be another Mike Nurse (at least in regards to shooting).

Marquette did play fast the last couple of years, and we know that Greg will not be playing fast at all. I think Scotty will have a better chance of fitting into our offense. My only (slight) concern about his lack of foot speed is on the defensive end. We can't put these great shooters out there if they are a total liability on the defensive end. That is why Sean was a nice player for us.....he was a decent shooter (forget the first half of the season), but he was probably a better defender.

All-in-all I am very excited about this class now. I never thought that that the 08-09 season would be our break out year anyway, I'm hoping for a big improvement and then a break out in 09-10. This will allow Greg some time to work with LA, and will get Scotty a chance to fully rehab and work on his game. Hamilton will have a chance to get stronger and bigger, and I'm expecting Wes and Craig to be all-Big 12 caliber players that year. Very excited about these developments.

There's a lot of other good players from Wisconsin - I don't think anyone will argue that Louisiana produces some great basketball players but Wisconsin has consistently had very solid players. One big name missing from the list is Latrell Sprewell, who was from Milwaukee.

In the coming 2-3 years, Jamil Wilson, Evan Anderson, Vander Blue, Korie Lucious, Johnnie Lacy, Flavien Davis are all top-level recruits from the state.

There is basketball outside of Louisiana you know? Also, as good as Greg Monroe is, you don't get to count him twice.

Thanks for the info...I do now remember Wolf at UNC. I appreciate it.

Wow, CycloneNum1. Will you ever be happy with any recruit? Maybe, just maybe he was slow because he was playing on a bum knee.

From JSOnline...
For the second time in as many weeks, the Marquette Golden Eagles have lost a member of their freshman class to a knee injury.
This time it's 6-foot-2 guard Scott Christopherson, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Saturday morning to repair a pre-exisiting injury to his meniscus.
Christopherson, a La Crosse Aquinas graduate, is expected to return at some point this season.
"We are shocked that he has been able to practice at the level he has," coach Tom Crean said in a statement. "We are even more shocked he was able to perform at such a high level in high school. We felt surgery at this time was the best option for Scott, not only for this season, but his long-term future as well. His rehabilitation will be supervised by Jayd Grossman and the rest of our medical team and we look forward to his return this season."

He hurt his meniscus? My wife injured her meniscus and it took her a long time to get back to 100%. A redshirt year will probably do him good.

Ugh...that could either be a completely non-issue or haunt him during his entire career. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

I tore mine playing basketball, and missed football season.....it healed since it was an outer edge tear, but then I got bursitius in the same knee. Torn Meniscuses really aren't good, because it changes the way you walk/run, which cause lots of other problems.

Maybe he won't be the next Hoiberg. But I'd certainly be happy if he'd be the next Hurl Beachum. (sp?) If he can come off the bench and be a zone buster or provide a little instant offense then he'll be a great addition to the Clones.

I think the success of all of our shooters is predicated on their ability to move without the ball, and our point guard play has to improve....which it should. A quicker release on Scott's shot would make a big difference as well.

wow Sam Okey, been a ong time since I heard that name. He ended up transferring to Iowa and played the second half of Dr Tom's last season as HC. I remember he got arrested for an alcohol related offense maybe OWI (imagine that) and the Michigan State student section really let him have it when UI played there chanting ''Okey-holic'' everytime he touched the ball it was hilarious.

Maybe he was accepted under similar terms to what Alex Thompson was. "You pay your own way part of the time, and..."

I think when you evaluate HS players you need to look at what they did in big games and what they are doing on the AAU curcuit and in invite only Tourneys. That gives people a better idea. I knew Curtis stinson was going to be good because it takes a pretty good athlete to get the MVP of an Addidas tourney. Yet not a lot of people heard of him. Not sure what Christopherson's resume is...To me it looks like he would have to be used as a 2 guard that comes off screens. A year off would probably help him a ton.

If we trade 3 pointers for 2 point shots, we win every game...

How do you know that? He'll have Wes healthy, and now a few players to run with him (including a point guard), and any team with Wes on the roster deserves to run to make the most of his talent.

Yeah I agree. I think the team will play differently next year. Buckley could be a big difference maker.

When it comes to game tempo I think history is on the side of us that think we won't be running all that much.

Remember, Christopherson's knee was only "40%" his senior year of high school, and then he came back a little too soon at Marquette. I still can't run the same, and I tore my meniscus in July.
