good info! I didn't like the Impala because of their sloped window design so that may be something I don't like there either. I just picked out the Rogue because I really like my Altima. It's had about eight fenders on it, but *knock on wood* nothing major outside of that. I did some looking at the Murano (mostly because I didn't know what the difference was between that and the Rogue) and for the newer ones at least, the Rogue was being recommended. Still a ways off on buying anything hopefully, but I like getting this kind of info. So between you and 00, if we aren't getting a minivan, don't bother with third row seats.

Murano is an Altima sized CUV, Rogue is a Sentra sized CUV.

Just went through the whole MU with a boombox playing "What is Love". No one danced with me

I would have SO danced with you if I was there.

Random reply I really can't do on Facebook: Peoria is NOT "just south" of Chicago.

ha, I had to think on this. Sentra is smaller than mine then. Maxima is the next one up. Is that actually similar to how long the vehicles are or are you just using the sedan names to compare? Like the Altima and the Murano are the same length?

I didn't look at overall length, because I was thinking chassis size (sometimes the CUV and car have the same chassis, not sure in this case) and overall length can be affected by the bodywork, but generally speaking, yeah....Murano has 111.2" wheelbase (From front wheel to back wheel) and 63.4" track (from left wheel to right wheel). Altima is 109.3 and 62.4. Sentra: 106.3/60.2. Rogue: 105.9/60.2.

I looked those up because I had that 'feeling' in my head, but wanted to verify before posting it as such.

So, essentially they fit Murano/Altima Rogue/Sentra. Now, with the higher roof line in the CUV's, the feeling of 'space' can be better, they can raise the rear seating position to gain leg room and other things.

since we are talking about cars, my wife and I were in an accident not too long ago and our car was totaled. We have been talking about getting an SUV before we had kids anyway so we decided now would be a good time to get one (we were thinking next year originally).

Yesterday my wife mentioned to her mom that we might be coming up to Minnesota in one of the coming weekends because there is a dealer up there a couple grand cheaper then here in DSM.

This morning my in laws went to that dealer and bought the model of SUV that we are planning on buying. My wife tells me they promised to not get the color we want but to me this is too close for comfort.

They already bought a golden retriever a year after we did, allegedly because ours is so well behaved.

Does anyone else have parents, in laws, family in general that are such blatant copycats about stuff?

I get that copying is supposed to be a compliment or something, but that's weird. Your wife should start dropping false information.

I'm a fairly private person in that when making decisions like this I'd rather not get anyone else's opinion and/or permission and just keep things to myself.

I don't think my wife gets how weird it is

no. that's weird. the older I get the more I appreciate the relationship that I have with my parents.
Samesies, When I bought the car that we totaled, I didn't even tell my parents I just did it. My dad asked what my monthly payment was, thought it was pretty low and that was that.

My dad would likely disown me if I bought a car without talking to him first. He LOVES looking at cars and haggling with salesmen.

My dad is a salesman. Pretty sure I would get disowned if I don't buy my next vehicle from him.

that's about how things are with my parents. They don't press for much info which is nice most of the time. And if I feel like our decisions are being "judged" when we are just informing, not asking for feedback.......I will just stop telling you things.

Have you told them your baby plans/timeline? I always hated talking to my parents about that. My mom doesn't meddle as much as she questions everything.

do you get good discounts?

I've never bought a car so idk.

Dad bought me the one I still drive my Junior year of High School and I just paid him monthly payments the last few years.

My sister has leased vehicles elsewhere and they still welcome her back so maybe I'd be okay.

My family doesn't copy one another intentionally, but we are so alike in our mindsets that we make eerily similar decisions sometimes. For instance, I have two sisters and a brother that bought Honda Odysseys within a month of each other. None of them knew until we went home for a family event and they all showed up with their new rides.

Also, my brother and sister ran into each other in Venice about 8 years ago. Neither knew the other one was going there.

I'm in my 30's and I ask my dad for advice all the time. I don't usually do anything major without at least bouncing the idea off of him. Not that I'm immature or need direction but rather I trust his opinion and experience with many issues.
